Messaging Giant LINE Launches Its NFT Marketplace: Offers 40,000 NFTs At Launch

  • LINE, the messaging giant, has announced its non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace named LINE NFT through LVC Corporation. The platform is available only in Japan. 
  • The platform will have a variety of content and users will be allowed to buy and trade NFTs. The users can even store the NFTs on the LINE BITMAX Wallet, which would be accessible through LINE messaging app accounts.
  • In addition, the mobile chatting app has collaborated with Yoshimoto Kogyo Holdings Co. Ltd, the Japanese entertainment giant for its NFT marketplace. 

On Wednesday, Japan’s dominant mobile chatting app, LINE in an official announcement revealed the launch of its non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace dubbed LINE NFT via LVC, operator of LINE’s crypto asset and blockchain.

The platform will allow users to buy and trade NFTs and even store them on the LINE BITMAX Wallet, which will be accessible through LINE messaging app accounts.

During the launch, the platform will have around 40,000 NFTs. Among these NFTs will be content from Yoshimoto Kogyo, a major entertainment agency in Japan, Mobile Police Patlabor, a famous anime series, and Betakkuma, a LINE’s character. 

Line is among the few mainstream tech firms that embraced digital assets quite early. In 2018, the company launched a crypto-trading platform and in the following year, it got the approval of the Japanese financial market supervisor. 

The messaging giant caters to more than 90 million users in Japan.

Meanwhile, LINE NEXT, Based in U.S LINE’s venture to expand the NFT space, also intends to launch DOSI, a global NFT platform by July. The platform will provide support to companies and creators for creating communities and building marketplaces.

Naver, a South Korean Internet Giant, and Japan’s Softbank are the owners of LINE. 

Recently, various Japanese platforms can be seen exploring the NFT marketplace. As of last February, Rakuten, a major internet firm, also launched a similar NFT marketplace for amplifying its crypto presence. However, the trend of diving into crypto is not just going on in Japan, but it is spreading worldwide. Global platforms such as NAGA and eToro are also embracing the NFT space.
