  • Since the wake of the NFT boom, creators are rapidly leaving their Web2 entities in droves and shaping their way in the Web3 realm.
  • Not just art creators and technologists are pivoting towards Web3. For instance, MLB player Micah Johnson pivoted towards paintings and concentrated his pieces on representation.
  • NFTs are digital pieces of art and are different from crypto tokens or coins, as NFTs cannot be interchanged from each other.

Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) have prompted the creators to shift from their Web2 entities to the Web3 world.

But it seems like it’s not only the artists and creators who are forraying in the Web3 space. For instance, Micah Johnson, the former American professional basketball player, turned towards painting and aimed at his pieces on representations. When he rolled out his first digital piece, sä-v(ə-)rən-tē (pronounced “sovereignty’), the MLB player was motivated by a question that would change the course of his work.

His four-year-old nephew asked his mother whether astronauts could be black.

Last year in February, the main character of the Akuverse was created. Aku is basically a physical display of the boldness of a little black astronaut finding his way to his dreams. And Aku’s story is delivered through NFTs or chapters.

The MLB Player recently airdropped 9,241 Akustar mint passes to Aku chapter holders. The Aku Mint pass accumulated more than $13 million in the past week as the Akusters got all set for a journey with a Proof-Of-Profile (PFP) launch.

Akutars are a collection of three-dimensional 15,000 PFP in Akuverse that will also function on the Ethereum blockchain. They have been quite popular among the NFT enthusiasts as Akutars signify courage, style, and confidence. The collection would feature traits and unique items developed by some of the popular names in streetwear like Billionaire Boys Club, ICECREAM, Puma, Pharrell Williams, etc. The distinct feature of Akutars is the cultural importance of Aku.

Earlier in October 2021, Visa announced a collaboration with Johnson and further plans to support the artist and the creators.

AkuDreams accumulated over $60 Million in total volume sales within a year. Johnson has also highlighted his plans to bring out Aku’s story via a feature film, where the Aku Chapter or the NFTs would be displayed in the scenes.
