  • Trezor users sued Intuit as they incurred huge losses due to a phishing attack.
  • The lawsuit claims that Intuit failed to take measures that could have prevented the breach.
  • Alan Levinson claims to have lost around $82,000, and others lost millions of dollars in this attack.

Intuit, the Mailchimp owner, has been sued by the Trezor hardware digital currency wallets users due to its part in a phishing attack that resulted in a theft of digital assets from many by the attackers.

Was The Software Giant Capable Of Preventing This Phishing Attack

Plaintiff Alan Levinson accused the software company that owns Mailchimp, the email marketing service that the attackers targeted, of willfully and intentionally failing to take appropriate measures to ensure that its data systems were secured. And failing to carry out available steps to stop the breach from happening and failing to reveal the breach of personal information on time, he highlighted in a lawsuit filed in the Northern District of California.

Furthermore, he believes that his personal information and that of the other users of Trezor who are members of his class-action lawsuit were improperly handled and not stored according to the applicable cybersecurity protocols.

He claims to lose $82,000 while the others lost millions of dollars in a phishing attack. The lawsuit highlights that this began when an employee of the Intuit division, the Rocket Science Group, which operates Mailchimp, clicked on a link, which resulted in granting the bad actors the access to the personal information of a lot of Mailchimp users.

With the help of the emails, the attackers then got into a phishing attack and coaxed a lot of innocent users to a fake Trezor website. Through this, they were directed to download a desktop app’s new version, which made way for the attackers.

Then, Trezor acknowledged the phishing attack and warned the users highlighting that a fraud email had been circulating and not to open any email originating from the phishing domain.

It is not the first time a phishing attack has occurred in the crypto industry. And the bad actors have always tried to carry out their unethical activities and would even try to do it in the future. But it also lies in the hands of the users to be alert of such unethical acts.
