Australia Zoo Joins Forces With Meadow Labs To Roll Out Eco-Friendly NFTs

  • Meadow Labs, an Australian Green NFT startup has collaborated with Australia Zoo to launch Wildlife Warriors NFT drop.
  • The NFT drop is all set to be dropped on June 14. The initial run will contain 2,000 NFTs resembling the Irwin family in a way.
  • Usually NFTs are considered as harmful for the environment, this is because of the fact that a majority of them persist on Ethereum blockchain, which uses Proof of Work algorithm.

We can easily guess which organization they are gonna pitch for collaboration to create the eco-friendly NFTs, that’s right, Algorand, first ever carbon negative blockchain.

Considering that Irwin Family run the Australia Zoo, this was a perfect decision by the Meadow Labs as the family would be the perfect stewards given the family’s legacy into Web3, allowing them the opportunity to tell the people a narrative of the impact they can make with the zoo, conservation attempts for Wildlife Warriors, and the animal hospital, stated Kelly.

While these NFT purchases might be beneficial for the Australia Zoo with respect to funding, there are perks for the Wildlife Warriors NFT holders too. They’ll serve similar to the National Park NFTs, offering the holders a distinct IRL experience to go with each acquisition of the artwork.

How Can NFTs Be More Eco-Friendly?

Though the NFTs are considered a threat to the environment by many, there are ways to make them more eco-friendly if we really work for it.

Developers can make use of Lazy minting, which will not make a considerable difference, but it can make the carbon emissions 2 to 3 times less. This can be done by not making an NFT until its initial purchase.

Sidechains are another option to lower the carbon footprints. Basically, NFTs can be minted on other blockchains, and can be mobilized to Ethereum later, if they aren’t moved, then it will reduce the carbon emission.

Bridges are basically built for what we call interoperability, enabling the chains to interact with each other. Benefit here is that you can move from Ethereum to another blockchain without any loss to the minted data.

Then several Layer 2 solutions are also an option which can be a hundred times more efficient.

Rather than using Ethereum, if the folks make use of other blockchains such as Tezos, Polkadot, Algorand and other PoS networks, we can easily reduce the carbon footprints considerably.
