The Money Distributed among 10 Artists

On Friday, OpenSea, the largest NFT marketplace in the world, will change the site to highlight pieces by what may be the hottest DAO (decentralized autonomous organisation) to date. In 2020, Trevor McFedries, a DJ, entrepreneur, and aspiring basketball player, created Friends With Benefits. Ten new commissioned pieces are being unveiled as part of a project named ‘The Flock’.

Contemporary artists Andrew Benson, Ayaka Ohira, Case Simmons, Ezra Miller, Nic Hamilton, Petra Cortright, Sarah Zucker, Tyler Givens, and Vivian Fu are among the artists who make up the DAO. To commission the NFT art, OpenSea contributed $100,000, which was distributed evenly among the 10 artists. Another physical project will be the real artworks, which will be on exhibit the first FWB Fest, which will take place at the Idyllwild Arts Academy in the San Jacinto Mountains of California, next weekend, from August 12–14.

The Support for FWB Community

According to Lindsay Howard, the DAO’s head of marketing, FWB is a social DAO and it’s particularly focused on fusing crypto and culture. Tokens are utilized as membership fees in the exclusive online community, which caters to blockchain enthusiasts and creatives, and Discord channels are used for networking. Up to this point, some 3,000 people have signed up, among them performers Erykah Badu and Azealia Banks. They are well known for organizing artist events and being this bridge in the social capacity in the web3 space, according to Howard. So they started talking with OpenSea because they’re interested in continuing to build relationships with artists in the space, and together we hatched this idea of being the first external organization to take over their homepage.

The more the two parties talked, the more energized they all got, and it ended up turning into this incredible partnership, according to her. The OpenSea site is extremely visible and is likely the most popular page on the whole web3. She went on to explain that she expects there to be a lot more opportunities like this in the future and that they would always want to work with artists that are a member of the FWB community and who support the work.
