- Hackers attacked the Instagram account of The Sandbox game.
- They reached the Instagram users in their DMs, asking to rent out their BAYC NFTs.
- BAYC is the most popular digital collection in the market.
The hackers are trying to exploit the cryptosphere as the space grows. According to a report, the first half of 2022 witnessed over 2 Billion USD worth of crypto assets wiped out of the market. Axie Infinity’s Ronin Bridge hack this year vanished 540 Million USD worth of crypto assets in a single go. In a recent event, some hackers used The Sandbox account to sell BAYC NFTs.
The play-to-earn crypto game’s Instagram account was hacked recently where the attackers tried to rent the most popular digital collectible, Bored Ape Yacht Club. Attackers exploited the platform this Thursday, promoting a fake raffle ticket touting season 4 LAND giveaway.
The organization pointed out that the attackers bypass 2FA and other security measures to execute their plan. Website’s URL on instagram was changed, and a user claimed that he lost his tokens after clicking the link. The fake URL redirected the users to a website asking them to connect their crypto wallets for the giveaway.
Sebastian Borget, COO and co-founder of The Sandbox, unveiled that the attackers contacted some users on Instagram with BAYC DPs to “rent out” the tokens — offering 40 ETH to utilize Bored Apes for 24 hours.
🙏 Instagram account recovered. The hacker tried to rent Bored Apes Yacht Club NFTs – using our account. We would NEVER ask via DM and have contacted all users to notify them. https://t.co/1DRFR3JlIq pic.twitter.com/CKQWfVBTNF

He said that “The organization took the command of the Instagram account quickly.” The Sandbox has partnered with well-known entities across the globe. Snoop Dogg has purchased land in the game and has developed his own virtual world called SnoopVerse, which is a digital twin of his real-life mansion.
