Prominent US state South Carolina treasurer, Curtis Loftis reported to visit latin American country El Slavador and spent five days there. His visit was a part of a cryptocurrencies focusing exploratory trip.
Loftis was said to be a part of delegation, in a 5th October, 2022 announcement, which includes business leaders, rural health officials and individuals from South Carolina—who keep keen interest towards the cryptocurrency and blockchain tech’s expansion. The delegation reportedly met with government officials at El Salvador in order to understand their efforts to make bitcoin (BTC) adoption possible within the country.
It is noteworthy that the country has accepted the top cryptocurrency as legal tender since September, 2021. The Bitcoin Law made bitcoin legal tender within El Salvador alongside the USD.
South Carolina Treasurer was highlighted during the trip since he paid for the trip by himself, as reported.
Loftis stated that South Carolina’s legislature proposed the El Salvador visit in order to explore different ways which could support the crypto and blockchain’s adoption within the region.
Holds Neutral Stance YetEnjoys Crypto Payments
In an interview, Loftis said he holds none of the sides—supporter or critic of cryptocurrencies—sought to learn how the government of his state could adopt and use the emerging technology. While adding the effective use of the tech with promotion of financial literacy to the residents. He added the delegation tried to pay via bitcoin—to the street vendors and local entities—around four times during their trip.
While sharing his experience, the treasurer said he was at a restaurant with the group and many of them made their payments using bitcoin (BTC). Loftis said that earlier he signed up for the Lightning network and he found it interesting how people closely use bitcoin. They enjoyed paying in the cryptocurrency and it also pleased them to do so, he added.
