Meta Quest Pro Comes With In-built Cams

With the arrival of Meta Quest Pro, Mark Zuckerberg has shown who is leading the metaverse development race currently. The VR headset marked its debut during the Meta Connect event where Zuck Bucks showed off his virtual legs in the digital space too. But the head gear has recently raised concerns regarding data privacy of the users.

Meta Quest Pro comes with in-built cameras to track the eye motion and facial expressions of the user. The company will integrate 5 more outside the gadget to capture body movements to mimic them in the virtual spaces. In November 2021 the organization promised to delete the biometric data it collected from over a billion folks following regulatory concerns and government investigations.

A whistleblower from the company said that they will keep using the data in the same way they always do. The organization will sell the data to monetize it. She also suggested that this will keep happening until transparency and accountability concerning data collection is increased.

In 1973, Richard Sierra, an American artist, said that, “If something is free, then you are the product.” It appears like companies today are taking this quote seriously. Facebook has already faced issues regarding data collection in the past. According to the reports, the company provided data of millions of users to Cambridge Analytica, a British consulting firm.

Meta says that they want to boost the quality of virtual avatars in the metaverse. Previously, people mocked Meta CEO real bad following a terrible selfie of his virtual avatar. But he took the charge and handled the situation by posting an updated version of his Horizon character on Instagram. He said “The company is much more capable with respect to the graphics.”

Metaverse development is increasing at an increasing pace globally. But the companies need to take a few things into account to develop a digital twin of the earth. This includes a physics-accurate environment to mimic the IRL movements, high-speed internet to interact with metaverse elements flawlessly, a glitch-free environment to avoid transforming a digital space into a “Multiverse of Madness.”

Apart from this, interoperability will be the core element in digital spaces. Interconnected metaverse will create an entire “Multiverse” for the users, without interoperability, digital spaces will become hedged spaces. Several companies are working on virtual spaces and we hope they all will be linked to each other in future.

PUBG publisher Tencent is already working on their metaverse. The company held 43% of the Chinese gaming market in 2020. Apple’s much anticipated VR headsets, Nvidia’s Omniverse, Microsoft’s 70 Billion USD acquisition of Activision Blizzard and more points out towards a digital future, but things take time and the metaverse going mainstream is a long trail towards the destination.
