People Are Interested in Metaverse Date

According to Dating(dot)com, metaverse can help elevate dating in the future as the virtual characters are becoming more realistic. As the world is becoming more digitized, it has become easier for people to find an ideal partner on the internet. The data says that several singles are willing to date in virtual spaces. Moreover, metaverse has the potential to remove the distance barriers, making it more suitable for dating.

Around 33% of the people open to date someone who does not belong to their locality. User interest in virtual spaces has increased according to Capgemini, a multinational infotech company. 90% of users are curious about the metaverse. But there’s a negative aspect to this too considering the presence of malicious actors in the space which can lead to identity thefts, financial frauds and more.

In December 2022, a woman’s avatar was harassed by some male avatars in the Horizon Worlds. Meta reported that she entered the space for beta testing and the experience left her mentally devastated. Company’s internal review said that she should have used the “SAFE ZONE”, a tool which does not allow other users to come closer to whoever is using it.

According to a University of Washington researcher “When virtual reality is real and immersive, toxic behavior happening in the ecosystem will be real too.” She added that these spaces are designed to give users an illusion that they are present in a physical space.

The governments are paying closer attention to virtual worlds too. In October 2022, INTERPOL announced that they have officially launched a global police metaverse. The Agency’s Secretary General said that this might be an abstract future for many people, but it also raises issues that have motivated them to make the move — supporting the member nations to stand against malicious acts to make the world a safer place.

INTERPOL pointed out that these criminals already have this space. The World Economic Forum (WEF) has joined hands with them and companies like Microsoft, Meta and more to counter the metaverse crimes. The Agency’s Executive Director of Tech and Innovation says that by recognizing risks, they can work on governance framework and eliminate any potential fraudulent markets before they take form.

Companies like Meta, Apple, Nvidia and more have already entered the metaverse space to make it a better place in all respects. Mark Zuckerberg changed the organization’s title to center their activities around virtual spaces. It is still a growing industry but holds a lot of potential, experts believe. Citi, an investment banking firm, believes that it can grow to become a $8 Trillion to $13 Trillion sector by 2030.
