Louis Vuitton, a French luxury fashion house, has entered into the Web3 world and announced the release of its vintage travel trunk as a non-fungible token (NFT), named ‘Via Treasure Trunk.’ Through this venture, Louis Vuitton aims to utilize the transparent and proof-of-ownership features of NFTs to provide its customers with the same feeling of exclusive ownership as the real world. Owning ‘VIA Treasure Trunks’ will also pave the way for exclusive members-only products and experiences.
Louis Vuitton’s Via Treasure Trunk
Louis Vuitton is redefining its 160-year-old luxury travel trunk with a twist of Web3. The fashion house is preparing to launch a high-end NFT collection called Via Treasure Trunks, which contains about a few hundred virtual versions of these iconic travel trunks.
The NFT launch is part of a more significant Louis Vuitton Project named ‘Via’ which has been taken from a Latin word for the road. The Maison, Louis Vuittoin’s design house, shared that the VIA Treasure Trunk will serve as a gateway for enthusiasts to gain exclusive access to various immersive experiences and limited drops, planned to happen at regular intervals throughout the year.
Louis Vuitton has embedded the latest design of the vintage trunks, i.e., Via Treasure Trunks, with a prominent Web3 twist by designing them as a soulbound token (SBT). This digital token enables the holders to unlock the exclusive and never-seen-before collections from Louis Vuitton’s renowned design house.
Moreover, by acquiring these digital Treasure Trunks, the owners are endowed with exclusive access to Via, the brand’s portal to digital collectibles. Through Via, Treasure Trunk owners can purchase digital keys to access Louis Vuitton’s designs that have not been seen before.
Furthermore, the soulbound nature of the Via Treasure Trunk discourages the users from transferring or selling these NFTs once purchased. It ensures that access to the portal is limited to only a group of selected people. However, NFT holders can sell future collectibles they mint on the Via portal on several NFT marketplaces.
Limited release of Treasure Trunk NFTs
The new exclusive NFT collection contains a set of only a few hundred’ Treasure Trunk pieces, with each piece having a retail price of $42,000 or €39,000. Consumers based in the participating regions (USA, UK, Canada, Germany, France, Japan, Australia) can secure a Trunk by registering on a waiting list on the Louis Vuitton website starting June 8.
Selected customers from the waitlist will be provided with an invitation by Louis Vuitton for a private preview of the Via on June 14. The chosen invitees will be provided with a chance to purchase their own Via Treasure Trunk NFTs on June 16.
Afterward, according to the token’s utility roadmap, the token holders will receive a physical replica of their digital Treasure Trunk, which in turn bestows the users with access to Louis Vuitton’s upcoming products and immersive experiences.
