It came out as surprising news when Elon Musk, the most famous tech entrepreneur of the 21st century, suggested that Unabomber might not have been wrong about the disasters technology brings to humanity. Taking to his official Twitter account, Musk tweeted “He might not be wrong,” in a response to a tweet about Unabomber, aka Theodore Kaczynski, an infamous terrorist who died in a federal prison on June 10.

As a staunch hater of industrial revolution and technology, Kaczynski ran a 17-year long bombing campaign that killed three people and injured 23 others. Despite this, Ted’s perspective on modern technology was supported by some while others found his acts abhorrent and evil.

After the news of death broke out, the internet was in a frenzy. Influencers and common folk took to Twitter to voice out their personal takes on Ted’s anti-technology manifesto.

Amongst them, Musk also shared his apparent sympathy with the ideas of the Unabomber by responding to a tweet made by a conservative influencer, Ashley St. Claire. In the original post, Claire shared the news of Kaczynski’s passing by quoting the first line from his terrorist manifesto, “The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.”

Expectedly, Musk’s reply caused a flurry of tweets from the public. A large fraction of the community reacted to the situation with derision while some bashed the tech enthusiast for the ironic remark. Matt Novak, a technology reporter, posted a sarcastic tweet on his official handle in response to Musk’s remark on the post regarding Unabomber.

Why is Elon Musk Agreeing with Unabomber ironic?

Elon Musk suggesting that he can see his perspective aligning with the remarks of the Unabomber on how technology brings disasters to the life of humanity is ironic at best. This is in the light of the fact that Musk is the 2nd richest man in the world who has built his empire on the foundation of technology. He is the mind behind some major tech companies like PayPal, electric car company Tesla, the space exploration firm SpaceX to name a few.

Kaczynski’s steadfast notion that technology is a threat to free human society is completely opposite to Elon’s love for futuristic technology. The tech entrepreneur runs Neuralink, a company that has been recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct a first ever human trial for its brain chips.

Musk recently announced the launch of his new artificial intelligence startup, X.AI. Moreover, he has been a pioneer in technologies such as electric vehicles and aspires to build an advanced humanoid robot that can perform various tasks around the house.

In an interview with a news agency, Financial Times, the visionary tech enthusiast shared his dream to visit the red planet, Mars, once his kids are grown up. He also added that he could envision his life ending there. None of these ideas would have been accepted by Unabomber as per his anti-technology manifesto.
