What Is Sustainable Development?

Sustainable development is a version or process of development that satisfies present needs while at the same time does not interfere with the future generation to satisfy those needs. Sustainable development can also be defined as an organized strategy for economic development that mainly emphasizes making a certain quality environment for the coming generations.

The idea of sustainable development can be further explained in different ways, but at its fundamental, it is a perspective to a certain growth that aims to balance differently, and frequently compete with economic and social limitations we are currently facing as a society..

Sustainable developments depend on three interdependence pillars, these are social, economic and lastly environmental.

Environmental Sustainability

Environmental sustainability is a sustainable development component that primarily targets natural resources and protects its ecosystem. This encourages sustainable performance to mitigate climate changes, vitality of the planet, conserve biodiversity, minimize pollution and ensure the long-term health of our environment..

Social Sustainability

Social sustainability draws its attention towards justice, social equity and inclusion. The objective is to provide and improve quality education for everybody, easy of access to better healthcare, get rid of poverty, encourage a sense of better security and welfare of individuals and empower marginalized communities.

Economic Sustainability

Sustainable development also focuses on the significance of economic growth and success. Nonetheless, sustainable development aims to attain this without affecting any of the three components. It aims to achieve this in a manner that is environmentally friendly, economically responsible and socially inclusive. Economic sustainability encourages development, supports fair trade, guarantees systematic use of natural resources, encourages accountable business practices and fosters innovation.

Importance of Sustainable Development

The bigger question is what is the importance of sustainable development? There are three pros of sustainable development. These are:

First of all, sustainable development aids in guaranteeing a better life for the present and the coming generations by balancing the future of environment, societal and economic development in the pursuit of an improved quality of life for the future generation.

Sustainable development lowers the impact on the environment. Socially, sustainable practices strengthen bonds between communities, ensuring improved quality of life, and providing hope for a better future. Environmentally, sustainable practices encourage individuals to reduce air, water and soil pollution and adapt to climate change and  encourage users to help protect natural resources.it also prohibits nature from being used as an inexhaustible source of resources and protecting the environment from rational use.

Lastly, aids in attaining long-term economic growth. The application of sustainable development practices encourages individuals to the usage of renewable resources and waste reduction. This helps in the reduction of greenhouse gas effusion and air pollution. This improves the quality of life and preserves the environment of the current generation and the future generation. Sustainable development practices help to protect natural resources,  this includes water, environment and food.

The Economics of Environmental Protection

Environmental  and economic  development seem to be crucial topics, there have been opposite views for a quite long time. Therefore, in this particular article, I have managed to take a deep look at economy and environment and managed to examine the external and internal association and relationship between environment and economy. The conclusion I came to is that damage to the environment will slow down economic growth in a very short period of time.

However, the correlation between environment and economy is growing stronger to a point of coupling, therefore conclusions have surfaced that environmental protection can slowly make better infrastructure and development of the economy. Researchers have said that one of the effective ways to encourage economic development is by promoting scientific technology innovation and fostering exclusive talents and enhancing regional cooperation. This will result in reduction of negative consequences of environment protection of the development of the economy.

It is also essential to improve the positive effect of environmental protection on economic development by encouraging and educating individuals on the importance of environmental protection, changing the approach of economic development and developing the environmental protection awareness. Thus, the integration cooperation between environment and economy can assist with both continuously strengthened.

By protecting our environment we are able to provide individuals who are jobless with jobs, for example by preserving trails, open spaces, parks and greenways, enhancing property value, expanding local business, attracting new business ideas, increasing local tax and decreasing government expenditure creating jobs and therefore leading to economic development. This promotes a sense of local community through the natural provision of ecosystem services.

In attempting to maintain a natural biosphere, individuals should not assume that forcing a price on commodities and services that negatively affect the environment will tend to have a negative impact on the economy. Placing a value on ecosystem services certainly changes the relative cost of various actions, therefore developments made in other areas doesn’t necessarily mean that all commodity prices must rise.

For instance, if we take a deep look at carbon emissions, revenues from the sale of emissions authorized to power-generating firms can be reinstated to the economy through funding of research into clean-energy technologies, for instance, let’s say that the money is returned to the consumers. under a ‘cap-and-dividend’ system that pays reward to all taxpayers (in this case the people whose environment is being damaged). This would raise the traditional nature of increased energy costs being passed on to consumers. Individuals that will be purchasing ‘green’ power (wind, solar and hydro) caused with minimal carbon emissions, a decrease in net cost.

One of the basic necessary conditions is environmental protection for the overall development of any country in the world. If economic growth and development are to be setted up, and the whole country in the world except this development, biological diversity must play a part in the development.  As awareness of environmental protection is developed, human awareness is also developed
