London Design Museum to Use AR, Offering Iconic Runway Looks

Technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR) developed their roots in every sector and the fashion industry is no exception. Technologies like AR, developed by Snapchat maker Snap, are going to be a part of the fashion industry soon.

Yes, you heard it right. The blockbuster fashion exhibition at The Design Museum is to offer visitors to test iconic runway looks via AR.         

History of the Blockbuster Fashion Exhibition 

Before exploring the existence and value of AR in the exhibitions, let’s take a look at the history of the blockbuster fashion exhibition. 

It all started in 1993 when the British Fashion Council decided to support the UK’s emerging fashion design talent. Designers including Alexander McQueen, J.W. Anderson, Grace Wales Bonner, Molly Goddard, Christopher Kane, Kim Jones, and Erdom were invited to uncover their fashion talent. Sponsored by fashion house Alexander McQueen, “Rebel: 30 Years of London Fashion” is celebrating London’s fashion talent. The exhibition shows the fascinating talents of the designers including Harry’s styles’ Steve Stokey-Daley’s outfit from “Golden” music video and Harri’s inflatable latex suit.  

Recently, the fashion exhibition has been in flashlight. 

The fashion show is to offer the visitors an outstanding experience with iconic runway looks.

What’s New? 

The blockbuster fashion exhibition at The Design Museum will be managed by AR to offer something new and engaging to the visitors. Visitors at the exhibition will be allowed to interact with the exhibition’s “Backstage Pass” area using AR. The AR lenses designed by Snap are deployed on a bank of AR vanity mirrors, permitting visitors to test different makeup looks and hairstyles in the show.

Each of the AR mirrors offers one of nine makeup looks and hairstyles from the respective designers. A few of the options include Klein blue hair and makeup, Charles’s face paint, and Richard’s floral motorcycle helmet. 

Focusing on advanced technology, the lenses are developed using facial tracing technology to offer different makeup looks. For hairstyles, machine learning technology, a form of Artificial Intelligence is used to create realistic AR hairstyles. Another technology that is going to boost the experience of the users is the ray tracing technology which is mainly embedded to offer features like jewelry, such as Richard’s floral helmet. 

In addition to this, the mirror combines Snap’s and Apple’s iPad Pro tablet hardware. Apart from this, visitors are permitted to adjust the lenses as per their convenience, via hand tracing technology. The only thing you need to do is to swipe up the hand across the face after finalizing the look via the mirror’s touchscreen. In all, the blockbuster fashion exhibition is going to boom the fashion industry as well as the upcoming fashion show. Further, the show will upsurge the engagement of visitors towards fashion and technology as well.
