Every new year brings fresh opportunities in crypto. Opportunities to make money, of course, through trading digital assets and to preserve that wealth by properly securing it. For serious crypto holders, that means using a non-custodial wallet.

Unfortunately, the industry is filled with stories of inexperienced or unfortunate crypto holders who lost access to their wallet and its precious contents. Writing a seed phrase down incorrectly, losing it, leaving it somewhere an attacker can access it, or being phished can all put paid to a season’s hard-earned crypto gains.

So, what’s the solution? For an increasing number of traders, the answer lies in seedless wallets. These enable non-custodial storage while doing away with the pesky seed phrase and the recipe for disaster it carries. The way these wallets achieve that without introducing centralized levers involves the smart use of blockchain technology, from multi-party computation to account abstraction.

Here are 10 of the best seedless wallets to consider in 2024.

1. Core

Developed for Avalanche, EVM chains such as Ethereum, and Bitcoin, Core is a highly capable wallet and DeFi portal in its own right. It’s also a serious player in the seedless stakes thanks to support for social logins. In other words, you can access your account using your Apple or Google ID, just as you would an email account.

Its seedless design makes Core ideal for web3 beginners, who can connect using an authentication method they’re accustomed to. However, there’s more to Core than merely seed elimination: beneath the hood, it’s packing some serious functionality. Whether you’re looking to stake your AVAX, trade on your favorite DEX, or move tokens cross-chain, you can do it all within the Core mobile and web app.

2. Zengo

One of the oldest seedless wallets, Zengo makes use of MPC (multi-party computation) to split the private key into several parts. It eliminates single points of failure while still providing a means of recovery should wallet access be lost. Even if an attacker was able to gain control of one of the key portions, they would be unable to take over the wallet.

As a multi-chain wallet, Zengo supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Polygon among others. dApps can be connected with Zengo to provide on-chain trading and access to DeFi products. The wallet can also be used for minting and holding NFTs. User-friendly and well regarded in the industry, Zengo is one of the better seedless wallets on the market.

3. Creso

There’s currently a waiting list for Creso, but when it does arrive, this web3 wallet looks like ticking all the right boxes. It’s part of a new breed of crypto wallets that harness ERC-4437 to provide account abstraction. That’s right, no need to store your seed, but that’s not the only benefit: the same EVM standard allows gas abstraction, allowing wallet developers to make the first transaction free.

Google or Apple can be used to sign in to Creso and there’s also the option of setting up guardians. These guardians are trusted friends, a fixed number of whom can be called upon to help you regain account access if you find yourself locked out. There’s also the ability to use 2FA to further strengthen your wallet.

4. Fuelet

Another wallet to make use of ERC-4437, Fuelet is seedless and easy to use. Its developers have incorporated some useful features such as transaction batching – handy when paying employees – and the option to set a daily limit. The only thing preventing Fuelet from being more widely used is that it’s designed for the Fuel network. As a result, it’s unsuitable for multi-chain use.

Despite these limitations, Fuelet is a great example of how web3 wallet design has evolved. It gives crypto newcomers an intuitive user experience. Wallets such as Fuelet will play an important role in ensuring more people adopt web3 and stick around.

5. Argent

Argent is a popular web and mobile wallet, particularly for users of the ZK-based chain Starknet. But did you know that Argent is also seedless? That’s thanks to Argent Vault which enables locking and unlocking your account, auto-blocking transactions, and setting trusted contacts. Argent provides many account recovery options including trusted contacts, a MetaMask account, or connecting your Ledger of Trezor.

While some of Argent’s account recovery options incur a fee, it also offers a free option for zkSync users. For crypto holders who like to do most of their work on layer2, Argent is ideal. It won’t appeal to casual users and it probably won’t “onboard the next billion to web3” but Argent does the important stuff well, like providing account recovery without seriously impairing security.

6. Bitizen

Its name may be Bitizen, but there’s more to this seedless wallet than Bitcoin. 15 blockchains are supported in total while more than 30 DEXes and 14 bridges are also integrated. As a result, you can use Bitizen for all your onchain trading and NFT activities while retaining full custody over your digital assets.

Thanks to ERC-4337, Bitizen is seedless and keyless. Instead, threshold signature scheme (TSS) and multi-party computation (MPC) are used. While Bitizen’s security model has some parallels with Zengo, which also uses MPC, it claims its unique implementation is more robust and decentralized. Wherever the truth lies, there’s no disputing that Bitizen is a highly versatile and feature-rich wallet.

7. NuFi

NuFi is a seedless browser wallet for web3. It supports multi-chain trading and staking as well as NFTs: whatever chain you mint them on, they can be viewed within the same gallery in your NuFi wallet. As a browser extension, NuFi connects to web3 dapps just like a conventional web wallet. There’s also an integrated Cardano DEX that supports fast and low-cost transactions.

The seedless design comes with social account connectivity. Google or Apple can be used to authenticate, and once logged in you can access Cardano, Ethereum, Flow, Milkomeda C1, and Solana, with support for other chains in the works. Other social accounts supported by NuFi include Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, Discord, Twitch, Github, LinkedIn, Line, and WeChat, making this web3 wallet feel very web2.

8. Kresus

Dubbed “The wallet you can’t get locked out of,” Kresus wears its seedless design on its sleeve. It provides non-custodial storage of assets such as BTC, ETH, SOL, and MATIC. With Kresus, sign-up replicates that of a conventional mobile app, using an email address and phone number for recovery purposes. You then create a Kresus Identity, which is used to access the wallet.

Kresus has a real community vibe to it. While still in its infancy, it’s taking web3 wallet design and authentication in a different direction. The seedless design is achieved by using Amazon Web Services’ Hardware Security Module to store private keys and magic links, bolstered by 2FA. It’s not going to appeal to hardcore crypto traders. Yet, Kresus is worth a look for casual investors.

9. UXUY

UXUY is hard to say but who cares so long as it works? The mobile crypto wallet employs MPC to provide keyless signing and seedless recovery. As a multi-chain wallet, UXUY supports Ethereum, Tron, BNB Chain, and others. In terms of security, UXUY splits the private key into secured portions that are stored with multiple cloud providers.

Connected to UXUY wallet is a DEX of the same name. It integrates popular AMMs such as Uniswap and PancakeSwap, allowing wallet users to trade assets at the best price. The underlying protocol provides a CEX-like trading experience, with gas-free trading eliminating another bugbear of DEX traders. For all-in-one trading and seedless asset storage, UXUY acquits itself well, even if it’s arguably not as secure as some of the non-custodial wallets featured here.

10. Tangem

While most seedless crypto wallets are software-based, there are a few notable exceptions. Tangem is one of them. It’s a slick-looking beast, but it’s what’s on the inside that counts. During setup, the wallet’s embedded chip generates a random private key, ensuring that the wallet cannot be compromised.

Up to three cards can be used to control a Tangem wallet. While the keys are stored on each of these cards, there is no means of extracting the private key. To secure the wallet, biometric security and access code protection are incorporated. For those who like a wallet they can feel in the palm of their hand, Tangem is a formidable hardware contender.

Select Your Seedless Wallet

The seedless wallet you settle on will ultimately depend on which crypto bracket you fall into. Hardcore on-chain traders will want multi-chain support, integrated dApps, and a full set of features over and above account recovery. Not everyone feels the need to do everything all the time on all the chains. For those who prefer a simple buy and hold strategy, a wallet such as Zengo or Tangem, if you prefer a physical device, will work well.

For serious usage, though, it’s hard to see past Core for its sheer usability, integrations, and robust security. It’s the best all-rounder in this review, not least on account of Bitcoin support – something that most other seedless wallets are lacking – and a full range of DeFi services.

It might be early, but so far these are the best seedless wallets of 2024.
