American Rapper Jack Harlow is coming up with a metaverse concert and a virtual reality (VR) documentary dubbed “Jack Harlow No Place Like Home: A VR Concert.” The initiative will showcase behind the scenes (BTS) at his third annual “No Place Like Home: The Kentucky Tour” according to Illinois-based radio station WRXX.

VR Documentaries Gaining Momentum

“At some point last year I realized how much of my home state I’ve never seen. I suddenly got this urge to take a tour bus across Kentucky with all my childhood friends,” said Jack Harlow. “So that’s what we did. Six shows in different towns across the state, with the final stop being in Lexington. We decided my first show at the historic Rupp Arena was the perfect moment to capture in VR. Enjoy.”

Jack Harlow began his career in 2015 and has been nominated for several accolades including Grammy Awards, BET Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, and more. His breakout came in 2020 following the release of the song Whats Poppin. The song attained second position on the US Billboard Hot 100 list.

VR documentaries are gaining momentum steadily alongside the virtual reality market’s growth. Home After War, Notes on Blindness, and Traveling While Black, are a few VR documentaries people can watch on Meta Quest devices. Documentaries associated with nature are particularly appealing to the users.

In November, David Attenborough, natural historian and broadcaster, launched his latest three-part VR documentary called Galapagos VR in collaboration with tech giant Meta Platforms. The series focuses on the volcanic islands of the Galapagos located in Ecuador.

Among the interesting features of the film were Quillustrations, 3D illustrations developed by a VR app Quill. “This small group of islands has revealed in microcosm the processes that have shaped all life on Earth,” said David Attenborough on the release. “Unlike many other tropical islands elsewhere, 95% of the Galapagos biodiversity still survives. But only just. We have the chance to bring back the full glory of this fragile ecosystem.”

The VR and AR market is still in its infancy and the price of devices supporting these technologies are well above the pay grade of many, creating affordability issues. However, analysis shows a bright side to the future. Data aggregator Statista foresees a combined growth for AR/VR at $58 Billion by 2028. As of now, there are nearly 100 Million users in the VR segment and around 23 Million in AR.

Metaverse development has become slow as a turtle given the fading interest in it. Technologies like AR, VR, MR, and more are crucial to push the metaverse into the mainstream. Everything we can imagine will be driven by the metaverse, except for activities like eating and bathing if it ever enters the mainstream.

Currently, over 400 Million users are dwelling on metaverse platforms globally, a majority of them under the age of 16.
