How Metalcore Was Built?
The Metalcore team recently shared their experience building a blockchain game and how Immutable’s ecosystem has helped them accelerate their building speed, improve the user experience for players, and increase community growth, retention, and engagement.
It has been a long time since the MetalCore idea was born, and it was always a game they wanted to build, but the technology didn’t exist for it.
However, web3 helps unlock a significant aspect of the MetalCore vision because ownership and stakes are crucial elements in a game focused on territorial control. Moreover, the MetalCore team came together through years of collaboration on various games. As described by the team, MetalCore is the culmination of many years of discussions about what their dream game should look like.
Why Metalcore Was Developed
The team discussed the need for such a game as early on, there weren’t many great tools in the web3 gaming space. The team had to consider what people were building, the talent level of those teams to build a reliable product and the cost of those products.
Additionally, what they could realistically do on their own to get the exact product they wanted and needed.
Challenges Faced By The Team
Building a web3 game is challenging, primarily because it involves making all the elements work seamlessly. Integrating completely new tech stacks adds a significant challenge, and working hand-in-hand with an organization that is building tooling gives the team comfort in the proper implementation of the tech into their game.
Immutable has been doing great things in the web3 gaming space for the last few years, and the MetalCore team has been watching closely.
At one point, their game hit a point where they needed to find a web3 home, and after seeing what Immutable was doing as far as developer tooling, onboarding, and publishing, it went well.
MetalCore’s Achievement
“MetalCore” is now the first playable game on the blockchain. The game is currently in its second closed beta period, which limits the number of players, between April 9 and April 22, according to an official release.
The game is expected to launch its open beta by the end of 2024 and will be available on PC on the Epic Games Store. This is the seller of other popular games such as Fortnite.
During the first closed beta period, the MetalCore team saw first-hand how interested people were in their game, evidenced by their top player completing over 800 missions with a total of over 13,000 kills.
The Ambience of MetalCore
“MetalCore” is a free-to-play space game where factions battle for resources. Players can join a faction, fight against others, or the environment. Cryptocurrency MCG powers the game, and players can earn MCG and convert it into NFTs. Immutable X and Immutable zkEVM are the two technologies used to power the game.
