  • The Tron energy consumption is equal to the energy consumption of 15 average U.S. households- CCRI Reports.
  •  CCRI is tracking other 20 networks including Tron Network.

On Wednesday, the Crypto Carbon Rating Institute(CCRI) Mentioned that the Tron network requires less power consumption, making Tron an environmentally friendly Blockchain. The main motto of the development of CCRI is to lower carbon emissions for crypto projects.

Tron is operating its ecosystem on delegated proof-of-stake (DPoS), which contributes to reducing carbon footprint compared to other mechanisms such as Bitcoin’s proof-of-work.

Delegated proof-of-stake depends on users who stake their native TRX tokens to nodes that validate transactions and maintain the network.

The report was commissioned by the Tron Foundation, which designs a product for and maintains the Tron blockchain. CCRI is tracking over 20 networks and published reports on their sustainability and overall ecological damage, a concern quoted by several crypto skeptics.

PoW is a mechanism used by Bitcoin, and PoW blockchains consume around 83 million kilowatts per hour and 22 million kWh, respectively. Although Ethereum is shifting its working mechanism on Proof-of-Stake, the Merge of Ethereum will likely happen in mid-September.

Proof of work consumes massive heat, and huge computational power is needed for its operation. Due to the huge consumption of Electricity, it is more costly than the other mechanisms.

According to some market technical specialists, Proof of stake consumes less energy compared to the Proof of Work mechanism, and Proof of stake consumes energy as less as a small town in the USA with 2100 houses.

Once Proof of Stake (PoS) is implemented within the Ethereum network, it is poised to reduce energy consumption throughout the chain. The validators will require less energy to mine new digital currency and protect it from attackers.

A belief says that consensus or Proof of Work (PoW) consumes a country’s worth of energy, in stark contrast to PoS, which requires only 2.62 MW. Times will change in innovation and research and further reduce energy consumption.

PoW consumes massive energy for the validation process of blockchain transactions. And the equipment used in the validation process is massive energy consumers, and the devices include Graphic cards and Antminers.

Tron annually consumes 162,868 kWh for around 2.31 billion transactions, 99.9 percent less Bitcoin and Ethereum consumption. The Tron energy consumption is “equal to the energy consumption of 15 average U.S. households.”
