Today, the Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates stepped down from the company’s board of directors. This 64-year old philanthropist started the venture Microsoft with Paul Allen in 1975. The company was recognized for its computer operating system known as Windows.
Windows was released in 1985 and remains as vivacious as ever today. At the end of 2019, Microsoft proclaimed a blockchain token and data management service. This will be a new tool for their Azure users.
Recently Gates has endorsed a blockchain-enabled security system known as Crest that operates in Africa and Asia’s Fintech Companies. To help the financial technology companies working in this industry Gates donated $1.4 million earlier this month.
On June 27, 2008, Gates switched out of a day-to-day role in the company in order to devote more time to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He served the industry as a chairman of the board until February 4, 2014.
Remarks by the board members
The Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella addressed that it is an honor and privilege for him to work with Bill. The evolution in the software industry is dedicated to Bill as he worked on to solve society’s most persistent challenges.
Bill’s management and vision is a great example for Microsoft’s board and will continue to benefit from its advice and ongoing technical passion. Adding to this Nadella stated that he is very obliged to work with Bill and will work alongside him to empower every person and organization.
Microsoft independent board chair John W. Thompson, expressed his deep affection on behalf of shareholders and the board to Bill for his contribution towards this industry. Bill always motivated the board members to think much bigger.

After Gates’ withdrawal from the position, there will be 12 members consisting the board, including John W. Thompson, Microsoft independent chair; Reid Hoffman, partner at Greylock Partners; Teri L. List-Stoll, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Gap, Inc.; Satya Nadella, chief executive officer of Microsoft; John W. Stanton, chairman of Trilogy Equity Partners; Sandra E. Peterson, operating partner, Clayton, Dubilier & Rice; Penny Pritzker, founder, and chairman, PSP Partners; Hugh Johnston, vice chairman and chief financial officer of PepsiCo; Charles W. Scharf, chief executive officer and president of Wells Fargo & Co.; Arne Sorenson, president and CEO, Marriott International Inc.; Emma Walmsley, CEO of GlaxoSmithKline plc (GSK); and Padmasree Warrior, founder, CEO, and president, Fable Group Inc.
