Three military service North Korean officers held guilty for theft by US Justice Department

As per the news that recently highlighted, the three North Koreans were charged with theft and fraud against the people of New York, China, and Russia. The three accused were charged for stealing $1.3 billion in crypto and traditional currencies from banks. The U.S. Justice Department has charged all the three accused of their malicious activity.   

Three North Koreans namely Jon Chang Hyok, Park Jin Hyok, and Kim II have been charged for stealing $1.3billion in crypto and traditional currencies from banks and other victims. All the three North Koreans worked together in the military intelligence hacking group, the Reconnaissance General Group. 

As per the news that has recently come to light, now the U.S. Justice Department has charged them for theft and malicious activity. The three fraudsters had set up malicious cryptocurrency applications, backdoors into the victim’s computers. They did not stop there only, the three of them had also hacked into the companies marketing and trading digital currencies like bitcoin. 

A blockchain platform has been developed by these hackers to bypass sanctions and secretly raise funds. They had also stolen digital currency exchanges from Slovenia, Indonesia, and also extorted a New York Exchange of $11.8million. There have been similar news of hacks and cybersecurity crimes doing the rounds. The news of these hackers also comes at a time when the cases of cybersecurity are increasing day by day.

Recently news came that a security researcher discovered a vulnerability. The researcher was able to get into more than 35 major companies’ internal systems, including major tech companies like Microsoft, Apple, PayPal, Shopify, Netflix, and others. The malware was uploaded to the open-source repositories- PyPl, npm, and Ruby Gems. This supply chain cyberattack involved major discrepancies that led to the theft. 

The North Koreans’ theft against the United Nations in New York, Chinese and Russian embassies happened in Washington. The comment by the authorities of these committees has not been public as yet. The contact details of the three hackers could not be found immediately.
