According to a new study by eToro, 33 % of Americans would be more willing to go on a date with someone who mentioned cryptocurrency in their online dating profile. More than 40% of men and 25% of women in a poll of 2,000 adult citizens in the United States between the ages of 18 and 99 said that when crypto is stated on a dating profile, it increases their interest in a potential date.
What Does Love Have To Do With Crypto?
The findings of eToro’s inaugural Crypto & Culture poll, according to Callie Cox, a U.S. investment analyst, show the crossover between money, culture, and identity. In the study, we talked a lot about identification and how important it is in the crypto world. The goal of this effort was to gain a deeper understanding of how individuals think about significant life endeavours and finding the right partner, Cox explained.
With this in mind, Cox noted that one of the report’s most interesting findings was that 33% of respondents would be interested in dating someone who mentioned cryptocurrency in their profile. This demonstrates that when people look for a spouse on a dating app, there is a link between money, love, and identity, she commented. Cox also pointed out that roughly 74 % of poll respondents said they would likely go on a second date with someone who paid the first date’s tab in Bitcoin (BTC). While these data show that crypto fans and holders who are publicly open may garner more interest on dating apps, Cox pointed out that Millennials and Gen Z respondents made up the majority of those who took part in the poll. Everyone had to self-identify, she explained, and the majority of the replies were from the younger generation. In terms of adopting crypto as a currency, Cox added that eToro’s research shows that paying a bill in Bitcoin is more appealing to men than it is to women.
Online Dating And The Cryptocurrency Community
Although the eToro survey reveals that introducing crypto terminology makes daters more desirable, some crypto community members believe that doing so is a double-edged sword. For example, Hailey Lennon, a law partner at Anderson Kill and the founder of Crypto Connect, told Cointelegraph that she didn’t put Bitcoin in her online dating profile at first, but that she finally did because the digital asset has long been a hobby of hers. While Lennon hasn’t seen an increase in responses to her profile since adding Bitcoin, she has had a few matches that have caught her interest owing to shared interests:
People who are interested in Bitcoin have something in common. For example, iftheyshare a photo of myself wearing a Bitcoin hat, it will almost certainly catch the attention of people who are interested in the subject. I’ve also jokingly tweeted that I’ve met my soulmate whentheycome across someone who has ‘Bitcoin’ referenced in their dating profile. However, it does demonstrate a shared interest and the ability to communicate and discuss a shared enthusiasm.
However, Lennon cautioned that including crypto terms in your online dating profile could backfire. Sometimes I’ll reframe things and say I’m a financial technology attorney without mentioning Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies, so the topic doesn’t turn into a discussion about Bitcoin and whattheydo for a living. It can also be intriguing to try to explain how you are a lawyer in the digital asset area to those who still link cryptocurrency with the erroneous narrative that it is exclusively used for criminal activities and money laundering, added Lennon.
Furthermore, while Lennon finds the results of eToro’s poll intriguing, she points out that many people in the crypto community are so focused on digital assets in their daily lives that they may prefer to have non-crypto-related conversations in romantic circumstances. When people find out what you do for a job, sometimes a date can solely consist of wanting to chat about Bitcoin and how it works. That can get stale and detract from the date’s passion and fun.
Ivan Perez, the owner of Multiplied, a crypto-focused public relations agency, told Cointelegraph that after adding investing and working in crypto to his online dating accounts, he’s met three ladies who work in the cryptocurrency industry. While Perez acknowledged that having something in common might be advantageous, he also admitted that each date he had with someone in the crypto industry felt more like work than pleasure. Perez stated, All we did was talk about crypto.
Perez went on to say that including the word crypto in his online dating profile had attracted the wrong kind of attention at times: Some woman may like my profile and then say something like, You work in crypto, how nice, or something similar. Then, when we go on a date, we usually spend the first 10–20 minutes talking about crypto and whattheydo. Some ladies are only concerned with the financial element. I’ve had numerous dates when the issue of cryptocurrency dominates the conversation.
Working in crypto, on the other hand, can make dating difficult, according to Perez. Now that NFTs are getting more mainstream attention, I’ve noticed that women at conferences are looking for crypto-rich people. This is aggravating since it causes you to doubt yourself.
