PSG To Enter Metaverse Half

PSG (Paris Saint-Germain), a top football club in French Ligue 1, with a massive fan following all across Europe, have shown its interest to enter digital space, and currently are securing names to be utilized in these environments.

PSG filed a series of trademark applications which plans to establish a brand on a variety of digital memorabilia as well as trading cards, everything authenticated through NFTs. Additionally, Paris Saint-Germain also involved digital asset wallet software in this application.

A patent attorney, Michael Kondoudis who shared this news on Twitter stated that this filing shows that the next rational move will be to prevent this brand as it marks its presence in the metaverse.

It is clear now, PSG is well aware of potential Metaverse holds, and is bracing for its trademark for digital economy which will create dominance over it.

Football Clubs Seeks New Horizons

Paris Saint-Germain is not the initial European football club to identify how vital metaverse is, as an alternative to extend its reach and to attain new heights in business.

Another Top football club, La Liga Santander’s FC Barcelona is also bracing itself to make their move into NFT products and metaverse. This is a trend which a number of sports organizations are going after because of business opportunities it holds within its components.

Kondoudis, who is tracing these trademarking moves, also believes that this trend is going to inflate shortly.

He said that anticipation of a number of trademark filings from the professional sports industry for digital products as well as NFTs and services to escalate over the upcoming year, as brands are recognizing requirements for protections in  metaverse.

As this article was being written, PSG’s fan token was trading at a market value of $13.35, bullish by 2.62% in the previous 24 hours.

Paris Saint-Germain also released its Fan Token back in 2020, and strategizes to utilize cryptocurrency to pay for an element of contract of GOAT Lionel Messi, whom the club signed from FC Barcelona during August 2021.
