Hacker Doing Legit Jobs Now?

Jonathan Wu, Aztec Network growth lead asserts that he might have taken the interview of a North Korean attacker for an employment on Ethereum L2 privacy protocol.

North Korean attackers have gained notoriety for looting billions of dollars from cryptosphere, especially in DeFi, as per the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).

The newest hit includes the theft of $620 Million from Ronin Network of Axie Infinity by North Korean supported hacker cluster Lazarus, alleged by the FBI.

Taking it to Twitter, Wu offered details regarding a job interview he had by video with one “Bobby Sierra,” a potential Honk Kong based Solidity engineer. He discovered Sierra through platform Greenhouse, asserting that he have over 6 years of rich experience.

But the individual, believed to be from North Korea, wasn’t able to determine his skillset as well as projects he claimed to have formerly worked on.

Rather than that, he mentioned “entirely random” DAO and NFT projects like MetaverseDAO and BoredBunnies. Sierra listed 12 GitHub commits over the past year, experience that is beyond “rich” for a blockchain developer.

The Red Flags

Wu stated that camera of the applicant was not active during whole video conversation, background was a bit noisy, people speaking in English as well as Korean. Sierra also falsified his actual location, pretending on his cover letter to an Ontario-based engineer.

There were numerous red flags, which involved constant use of ‘okay” as a pause filler — a custom used by native Koreans — poor English and a mysterious accent. But as per Wu, best giveaway was perhaps the involvement of the phrase, “the globe will witness great results from my hand” in Bobby Sierra’s curriculum vitae.

Hackers Are Evolving

With every passing day, attackers are attempting more tricks. Now they attempt to embed themselves as workers in cryptocurrency organizations. Hackers have bagged over $1.22 Billion from DeFi sector alone this year.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation makes allegations that North Korean hacker clusters have been reaching out to cryptocurrency services pretending to be employment seekers or programmers, so they can know how their processes function.
