Immutable X has announced its expansion to be the world’s first cross-rollup liquidity platform built on StarkNet for NFTs. It is a leading scalable, carbon-neutral platform for the trade of NFTs on Ethereum and is fueling the next generation of web3 games.
After the announcement, players will be able to directly trade any asset matched across multiple Ethereum Layer 2 and Layer 3 roll-ups, scaling to billions of users and solving the issue of liquidity fractionalization that occurs with every individual roll-up today. The protocol will perform hundreds of thousands of transactions per second, supporting games with hundreds of millions of daily players allowing them to own their in-game assets truly.
Developers will be able to use compostable and custom smart contracts. This will smoothen the migration of L1 smart-contract based games to Immutable instantly for projects. Immutable X will be at the front in providing L3s to games with over 10 million active users who need dedicated throughput and do not wish to compete with others for capacity.
Ethereum continues to be the no.1 choice for game developers, and Immutable X is prioritizing introducing the world’s best games to Ethereum. Any web3 project that needed scale and composability until now had no option other than choosing a less-secure, non-Ethereum Layer 1, which can easily experience outages. In addition, the assets can suffer significant liquidity penalties. The goal of Immutable X is to ensure developers are not stuck in a position where they have to choose between the UX of their game and Ethereum’s security/liquidity.
StarkNet’s integration as a new settlement environment on Immutable X eliminates many earlier developer tradeoffs such as complex migration from Layer 1 to Layer 2, composability and the lack of custom smart contracts. But, it’s going to be a UX-optimized environment and less performant than Immutable X’s current application-specific roll-up.

Immutable X will be supporting multiple L2/L3 zk-roll-ups for different use cases since the World-class games have different needs.
