Mining Less Than Gaming?
According to data, the video game business uses somewhat more energy overall than the bitcoin mining industry. Although the energy consumption of BTC mining has increased dramatically in recent years, the business still accounts for a relatively small portion of the overall world usage, according to a new analysis published by Arcane Research.
At the moment, power is used by bitcoin miners at a pace of about 100 TWh annually. This amount represents a negligible 0.06% of the overall global energy requirements. Here is a graph that compares BTC mining to some of the other energy-demanding sectors of the global economy:
Strong Incentive to use Little Energy
These miners are unique users of energy for many reasons. First, power accounts for around 80% of the expenditures associated with running a Bitcoin mining operation. This implies that miners have a strong incentive to use as little energy as possible or relocate to regions with cheaper pricing.
Mining is location-indifferent, which is the second distinction. Due miners may set up their operations almost anywhere, they can access energy resources that other businesses cannot because of geographic constraints.
The yearly energy consumption of gold mining, on the other hand, is currently over 240 TWh, which is roughly 2.5 times that of bitcoin mining.
The figure also shows statistics on paper manufacture, which uses 2,361 TWh annually, which is 24 times as much energy as Bitcoin miners and 10 times as much as Gold mining. The paper also makes the case that BTC mining differs from these other energy-intensive enterprises in how it uses electricity.
