Campaigns From Crypto.com and Floki Inu Flop, Whilst Big Eyes Breaks Through Billboard at Times Square

Ripped down from the wall. Laughed out of the room. It has not been a good run for Floki Inu’s (FLOKI) and Crypto.com’s advertisement campaigns. I will be looking at these two unsuccessful cryptocurrency campaigns and then looking at Big Eyes‘ (BIG) new campaign in Times Square. Does this advertisement stack up? Or does it join these two crushed campaigns in the coffin?

Crypto.com’s Superbowl Campaign Crashed and Burned

It has been just over a year since Crypto.com magnificently crashed with a now infamous commercial with Matt Damon. The crux of the commercial was comparing the act of investing in crypto with pioneering acts such as the Wright Brother’s first flight, and early space travel. Although cryptocurrencies are a revolutionary breakthrough, comparing the simple act of investing in them has garnered plenty of ridicule from the public, and even a South Park parody. Taking risks is something that we should be prepared to do to make any progress and deviation from the status quo, but the comparisons between crypto investments and life-or-death pioneering acts are not the most tasteful comparison.

There was also some dramatic irony at play. The catchphrase “Fortune Favours the Brave” is an interpolation of the actual quote “fortune favours the bold” from Pliny the Elder. Those were his famous last words after he left with his naval fleet to investigate Mount Vesuvius’ eruptions in AD 79 and ultimately died in the expedition. Not the greatest comparison to make for jumping on the cryptocurrency boat. Hopefully, Crypto.com’s World Cup sponsorship will bring some more positive light to the crypto space.

Floki Inu Flat out Rejected

The UK advertising watchdog bared its fangs at Floki Inu (FLOKI), a crypto named after Elon Musk’s dog. Floki Inu’s London underground campaign was stopped in its tracks as it was believed to take advantage of newcomers to the crypto space unaware of the risks involved in investing in cryptocurrency.

The ad itself was Floki Inu’s mascot dog bearing a Viking helmet and rallied consumers who had missed out on Dogecoin (DOGE) to invest in Floki Inu. “Missed Doge? Get Floki” was the strapline, prodding consumers’ FOMO, and getting them to recklessly invest in the cryptocurrency.

Big Eyes on the Big Screen in the Big Apple

Big Eyes’ (BIG) Times Square billboard ad is short, sweet, and to the point. Big Eyes is learning from the mistakes that Floki Inu made, by keeping a robust, yet simple approach. There is no FOMO mongering amongst potential investors, just a slick animation of the Big Eyes cat swimming through a tank and snatching a coin before bursting through the glass. The philosophy behind the ad is to get people to the door of the cathouse, drawing on Big Eyes’ cute aesthetic. The curious will click through, and be able to learn more about what Big Eyes is about, allowing them to make informed decisions.

Final Thoughts

Big Eyes’ (BIG) campaign is making a splash in Times Square. Its slick animation and Looney Toons’ style transition will draw the eyes of many in the area. It is only onwards and upwards from here for Big Eyes. That’s all folks!
