  • There are 171 Million virtual reality users globally.
  • VR is considered key to enter the metaverse.

First person shooter (FPS) games have grown at mass since the advent of the Call of Duty franchise. Today, we have Battlefield, Medal of Honor, Sniper Ghost Warrior and many more in our gaming shelves. Enhanced graphics have made these games more immersive while technologies like virtual reality and augmented reality are a cherry on the cake. Meanwhile, metaverse is slowly growing into a global phenomena which can intensify FPS experience.

A Shift to VR is Challenging

Battle royale games are a huge addition to the FPS genre as they have attracted a lot of users on their network. According to the data over 30 Million gamers are playing PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on a daily basis. Meanwhile, Fortnite has an average daily active user count of 252 million.

However, the developers of these games have not yet released any VR version for the audience. Several games including Among Us, Resident Evil and more have made it to virtual reality. Data shows that there are currently 171 Million VR users across the globe but it may rise considering more companies are trying to develop better devices for consumers.

As gaming has attained new standards, so have gamers. There was a time when graphics on the Sega console worked just fine for us, but it has changed today. Nowadays, gamers want ultra realistic environments that give a feeling of watching an action movie on television. To attain this, companies like Nvidia, Unity and more are constantly delivering enhanced GPUs and gaming engines to meet the ends.

The demand will only grow in the metaverse. Why so? Because the gamers have already established their standards in context with gaming realism. It is possible that they may find the concept of AR/VR fascinating, but they would want more as soon as the technology sinks into their lives.

Another issue that may arrive would be a shift in gaming controls. It is difficult for a PC gamer playing FIFA using a keyboard to play the game using a controller. Though a gamer gets used to it, however, it takes time for our neurons to make new connections with our brain to understand the new transition.

Virtual reality is considered the key to enter the metaverse. Companies like Meta Platforms, HTC, Apple and more are expected to lead this market. Still, they need to eliminate a few challenges like bringing mainstream games to the comfort of a VR, adjusting the price tags of these devices and more.

For the gamers seeking more action and adventure, FPS gaming in VR would be a dream come true.
