With ever-evolving technology and a growing creator economy, artists are keeping up with the latest innovations to stay ahead of the curve. Tech giants are providing new collaborative tools for artists to deliver enticing content to their audiences. Nvidia, a leading GPU maker, recently revealed that Marvelous Designer, a digital graphics solution, has launched an Omniverse Connector, a plugin for the company’s collaborative metaverse platform, Omniverse.

Nvidia Boosting Creative Workflows

According to Nvidia’s official blog, it will ease the designing process for creators using Open Universal Scene Description (OpenUSD). The Connector fastens the process by eliminating a user’s need to go back and forth to import or export files while finalizing their work.

The Connector can enhance a designer’s productivity using the Omniverse. The plugin will enable users to make informed design decisions, preview virtual clothing’s reaction to various environments and lighting conditions and simulate realistic fabric behavior. Fabric behavior is a holy grail in video gaming physics as programming it to perfection is beyond the bounds of possibility as of now.

Nvidia is actively working on the metaverse and artificial intelligence (AI). Jensen Huang, the company CEO, believes the metaverse is the evolution of the current internet. It may turn two-dimensional Web2 pages into three-dimensional worlds. However, interest in the metaverse has faded, specifically due to monotony in digital worlds.

Meta Platforms, a metaverse-focused company, reduced their target to build a 500K user community to 280K, The Wall Street Journal reported on October 15, 2022. The iPhone maker, Apple, announced a mixed reality (MR) headset, Vision Pro, on June 5, 2023. However, the MR headset will come with a hefty price label of $3,499.

Metaverse Spark has Apparently Snuffed Out

Although Nvidia has provided a robust metaverse collaborative platform for the users, declining interest in digital worlds may prove pernicious to the company. Last year, Google Trends, a Google search query analytics website, revealed searches for the terms ‘metaverse’ and ‘NFT’ have plummeted.

In August 2021, Nvidia partnered with Blender, an open-source 3-D animation tool, and Adobe, a multinational software company. The collaboration focused on metaverse exposure to millions of Adobe and Blender users. As of July 2021, Blender had a daily active user base of 23 Million. Adobe had the same number of users on its Creative Cloud platform during mid-2022.

A lot of companies are using Nvidia’s Omniverse platform today. Lockheed Martin, a defense corporation, is wielding it to simulate, predict and suppress wildfires. German multinational luxury automaker, Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW), uses the platform for live multi-user collaboration among workers.

A study shows there are nearly 400 Million metaverse users globally. The term is relatively more popular among crypto companies. Over half the organizations investing in the metaverse are institutional investors in cryptocurrencies. Virtual worlds are still in their infancy with a better part of the world’s population still nescient of them.
