Recently, Discord became a means for hackers to attack the Solana network. An X (formerly Twitter) user shared a post alerting the community about it. The user mentioned that hackers posed as renowned personalities of the Solana community. As per the details shared, the hackers followed a tried and tested modus operandi. They shared links with promises of “DAO rewards” and added some FOMO factors to it as well.
Impersonating famous figures, they convinced quite a few people to click on the links. Upon reaching the destination site, the visitors found a bevy of duds instead of rewards. They were exposed to direct loss of funds, unauthorized transactions, and data breaches.
As soon as the incident surfaced, experts started suggestions on protecting discord channels. Some of them struck the chords with many users.
Things Users Can Do to Protect Their Discord
For users, it’s important to keep in mind that no platform is impervious to hackers. Thus, they need to take every precaution while using.
Double-Check User Profiles– Impersonating well-known figures isn’t a novel trick for scammers. They know that people fall into such traps and thus, they use this ruse occasionally. Users need to check user profiles carefully, especially when they claim to be who’s who of any industry.
Don’t Click on Unsolicited Links– Unsolicited links often convince people that it is a gateway to opportunities. Needless to mention, many people hope for such miracles to happen. Scammers take advantage of this human notion to make a quick buck. Hence, users need to avoid these links invariably.

Just last month, hackers siphoned off 38,500 SOL tokens and $123,184 USDC from Solana-based Cypher Protocol. It should also be noted that crypto space suffers huge losses every year due to such attacks.
