Introduction to AI, mainly ChatGPT, sought the attention of content creators. With eyes filled with curiosity, content creators are looking towards Google to put its view on the AI content. An update by Google somehow calmed the curiosity of content creators.

What’s the new update? Let’s find out the same.

What Google Is Actually Cooking?

With a long history of rejecting irrelevant content, including repetitive and plagiarized content, Google added a new feature to the list, which is “High-Quality content”. Based on Google’s latest announcement, the tech giant will emphasize the quality of content from now on.

Flashing back on history, in 2022, April said that content generated using AI tools would be considered unhelpful and against the guidelines.

With time, the tech giant modified its perspectives and decided to go with high-quality content without mattering the source of the content. That means it is OK if the content is created using any of the AI tools; the main focus should be on the quality and knowledge the content is offering to the users.

The tech giant is quietly updating its own rules and guidelines for content to acknowledge the rise of artificial intelligence.

In October 2022, Danny Sullivan tweeted that AI content is not bad; it just does not meet Google’s content criteria for ranking purposes. At the same time, the tech player added a spammy option that automatically transfers the AI-generated content to spam.

The game changed in February 2023, when Google embraced automation and updated its guidelines. One month later, Google officially accepted AI with the introduction of Google Bard, an experiment to collaborate with generative AI.

In the latest iteration, the firm updated the phrase from “Written by People” to “Helpful Content Update” to rank sites on search engines. However, the leader still maintained its focus on rewarding original, human, and helpful content that offers value to users.

SEO or AI?

To remain competitive in the marketplace, Google upgraded its SEO script for content developed with AI. However, the implications are clear: repetitive and low-quality AI content may hurt SEO, even as a technological advancement.

The main question that arises is whether the update is going to cut off the jobs of writers and editors. The answer is no. Writers and editors must still have a significant place in the writing sector and will play a key role in the process of content generation.

As per Google’s perspective, a lack of human involvement might be risky because AI models have a tendency to hallucinate. Not everyone, but some of the errors can cost millions of dollars and even put humans in danger. Changes in standards will gradually evolve the use of AI in the content generation industry. The focus of Google on content quality instead of focusing on human-generated or AI-generated tools best explains this.

Conclusion

Google, the tech giant, updated its SEO script with AI in order to offer high-quality content. The launch of Google Bard is the first initiative of the giant player towards AI and is expected to offer much more in the future.
