Kraken, a globally recognized cryptocurrency exchange, has unveiled the appointment of Bivu Das as its new UK managing director. The strategic move highlights Kraken’s commitment to maintaining a robust presence in the dynamic UK cryptocurrency market. 

Das, a seasoned fintech entrepreneur with experience at institutions like Starling Bank and a notable track record in the crypto industry, is set to succeed Blair Halliday, who held the role for approximately a year.

Bivu Das brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having successfully led ventures such as Unblock, a startup specializing in crypto payments gateways, and FIBR UK, a platform dedicated to small business finance. 

Furthermore, he served as the head of operations strategy and scaling at Starling Bank, a prominent British neobank known for its innovative approach.

As he takes the reins at Kraken, Das will shoulder the responsibility of spearheading the exchange’s efforts to further expand its operations in the UK. Kraken already boasts of a workforce of 275 in the country and commands a significant client base. 

Notably, the exchange is registered with the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) as both a crypto asset exchange and a custodian wallet provider. Additionally, it holds essential authorizations related to its derivatives and benchmarking units. 

Kraken stands out as a major player, contributing to 50% of GBP spot trading volume within the cryptocurrency market.

Bivu Das underlined the pivotal role that the UK market plays for Kraken, emphasizing that it remains one of their most robust and expansive markets. He acknowledged the evolving regulatory landscape in the UK crypto industry, which has led to significant impacts on some offshore exchanges, including suspensions and customer onboarding halts. 

However, Das expressed unwavering confidence in Kraken’s capability to navigate these changes effectively.

Das revealed that Kraken has been actively engaged in collaborative efforts with regulators to ensure a robust and compliant position in the UK’s crypto landscape, looking ahead to a future marked by regulatory clarity and stability.

Kraken’s decision to appoint Bivu Das signals the company’s determination to strengthen its foothold in the vibrant UK crypto market while adapting to the ever-evolving regulatory framework. 

As one of the leading cryptocurrency exchanges worldwide, Kraken‘s ongoing commitment to the UK underscores the nation’s significance in the global digital currency ecosystem and reflects its dedication to providing a reliable and compliant platform for cryptocurrency enthusiasts and investors.
