OpenAI, the artificial intelligence (AI) developer, has reportedly entered the discussion with investors who are considering investing $100 Billion into the company. As per the report of Bloomberg, sources reveal that investors who are interested in investing in AI developers have not taken part in the preliminary discussion regarding the requirement of funding within the AI industry.
Till now, there has been no finalization of the funding round, and matters like the timing of the funding round, and terms, also remain undiscussed. The reports suggest that Open AI is persistent in its investment initiatives with the world of other AI startups.
The report suggests OpenAI also held discussions to raise funding for a new chip venture with Abu Dhabi-backed G42. The report also clarifies that OpenAI is set to complete a separate tender led by Thrive Capital in early January, which permits employees to sell shares at a valuation of $86 Billion.
OpenAI has begun the application process for the second force of its six-week program for AI startups, Converge 2. The program has a total funding of $15 Million. It also offers 15 qualifying firms the opportunity to receive $1 Million each.
The initiative is followed by the funding program for AI startups in November 2022. In OpenAI’s inaugural funding program for AI startups, 12 applicants were granted $1 Million each to further enhance their AI ventures.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, posted on X that he is glad and thankful for people taking AI seriously and also that they have put a tool out in the world that will benefit people. However, he has yet to make any public comments on social media regarding the funding round.
Other Companies Investing in AI
Funding for AI startups is on the rise in 2023 and will continue in 2024. Other AI startups like Mistral AI which is a French AI startup closed a funding round worth nearly $415 Million on December 11. With the funds, the firm will continue developing generative AI tools, chatbot development, and customizable features.
Microsoft has committed to invest over $10 Billion in Open, AI which has enhanced the generative artificial intelligence craze in November 2022 by releasing ChatGPT. The popularity of ChatGPT can generate human-like responses baked on user prompts. It has made the AI technology more popular across the world.
