On January 16, 2024, Bitget, a leading cryptocurrency exchange and Web3 Company made an initiative to promote gender diversity and inclusion in the blockchain industry. At the Web3 Hub Davos event organized by CV Labs, during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2024, the exchange committed to invest $10 Million in the Blockchain4Her initiative, a program to boost women’s empowerment in the Web3 space.   

The Need For Women’s Empowerment in Web3 Space  

The program is specifically tailored for female entrepreneurs to remark their presence in the Web3 and blockchain world. A report published by Bitget on January 11, 2024, showcased the difference in Web3 VC funding between the female-led Web3 startup and Male-led Web3 Startup from Q1 2022 to Q3 2023. As per the report, female entrepreneurs received over $1.77 Billion of the $27.85 Billion whereas male entrepreneurs received around $26.08 Billion in funding. The disparity in funds vitrine gender inequality in the Web3 universe.

Female entrepreneurs secured around 7% of the VC funding, showcasing the need to empower women in the Web3 and blockchain universe.  

Blockchain4Her Project Overview

To mitigate such biases and spot challenges faced by female entrepreneurs, Bitget initiated the Blockchain4Her program. The program upholds a wide variety of initiatives, such as Incubation Programs and Pitch Competitions, the Women in Blockchain Summit & Awards, Ambassador program. All these programs are designed for different purposes. The Incubation Programs and Pitch Competitions will offer comprehensive support, resources, and mentorship to female entrepreneurs whereas pitch competitions will help women showcase their talents.      

To support gender diversity, the crypto exchange also inviting industry leaders to join as ambassadors under the Ambassador program. Appreciation and recognition also matter when it comes to boosting someone’s confidence. Women in Blockchain Summit & Awards will appreciate the achievements of female entrepreneurs along with offering them the chance to build a network and actively participate in the field of Web3.     

Gender inequality is an evergreen concern in every field, which is not fully mitigated yet. However, the entire world is working to develop an equal, diverse, and inclusive environment. Bitget’s initiative will provide females with a platform where they can express their talents, potential, and powers to run the economy. The crypto exchange also succeeded in the Blockchain4Youth project which aimed to educate and empower the next generation of blockchain leaders. Over $10 Million was invested in the program to offer youth blockchain courses and certifications.
