Elon Musk’s startup xAI has created an AI bot named Grok, which will soon be integrated into the X social media platform. Once it’s out of the beta stage, Grok will be available to all X Premium+ subscribers, as well as a standalone app. Elon Musk had announced this on his social media account.

In an interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, Elon Musk stated his intentions to create ‘TruthGPT’, which confirms the reports of him creating his own artificial intelligence company.

Elon Musk said that he aims to develop ‘TruthGPT’, an AI that seeks maximum truth and understands the nature of the universe.

What is Grok?

According to xAI, Grok is “an AI modelled after the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, so intended to answer almost anything and, far harder, even suggest what questions to ask!”

The startup claims that the AI bot has “real-time knowledge of the world via the 𝕏 platform” and will “answer spicy questions that are rejected by most other AI systems.” xAI said Grok is currently in its early beta stage and promised users that the AI bot will improve in the coming weeks with the help of users.

Grok is expected to compete with ChatGPT, a product developed by OpenAI, a company that Musk co-founded in 2015. However, he resigned from the OpenAI board in 2018 due to a conflict of interest with his electric car company Tesla. xAI also collaborates with Tesla and Musk’s other firms.

One day before releasing Grok, Musk posted on X that In some important respects, it is the best that currently exists. He also claimed the current prototype is superior to ChatGPT 3.5 across several benchmarks.

Elon Musk Critisized ChatGPT and OpenAI

Musk criticized ChatGPT and OpenAI, concerned about artificial intelligence and ChatGPT being ‘too woke’. Later, he started targeting OpenAI and criticized their decision to turn into a for-profit company.

It’s worth mentioning that Musk was one of the founders of OpenAI when it was established in 2015. However, he left the company in 2018 and gave up his stake in it.

When Musk launched xAI in July, he had said that the startup competed with OpenAI. Months before the launch of xAI, Musk had mentioned his work on ‘TruthGPT’, a maximum truth-seeking AI that can compete with ChatGPT, Google’s Bard, and Microsoft’s Bing AI.

Musk told Tucker Carlson in a Fox News interview in April. that he is going to start something that he will call ‘TruthGPT’ or a maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe.

He thinks that this might be the best path to safety in the sense that an AI that cares about understanding the universe is unlikely to annihilate humans. Musk Believes that this is because we are an interesting part of the universe. In February, Musk wrote on X, (which was known as Twitter back then): “What we need is TruthGPT”.
