Crypto Scam: On-Chain Data Tracks More Stolen Funds Moving Into Zcash

Key Insights

  • Crypto scam reports identify stolen funds entering Zcash crypto as the ZEC price falls 3.7%.
  • SlowMist and Mandiant confirmed Bitget losses totaling $387.5 million across 11 blockchains.
  • Following a crypto scam, Bitget announced one-time account closures for some customers.

Crypto scam tracking has identified more stolen funds moving into Zcash crypto, according to on-chain analyst Specter. His findings linked the activity to several security incidents following ZachXBT’s disclosure about the Bitget exploiter shielding stolen assets.

Specter said additional threat actors had begun directing proceeds into ZEC, using its privacy features for laundering and obfuscation.

Colin Wu shared the analyst’s account alongside an embedded Telegram update from blockchain investigator ZachXBT. Together, those reports detailed transfers tied to the September Bitget attack and movements involving funds from two other incidents.

Crypto Scam Tracking Identifies Zcash Transfers

Expanding on ZachXBT’s disclosure, Specter identified funds associated with the Cryptobills Ledger crypto scam incident entering Zcash. He also reported ZEC movements involving proceeds from the $12 million Triple-A exploit.

Those findings extended the crypto scam tracking beyond the exchange breach that ZachXBT had described. Specter attributed the additional transfers to multiple threat actors, rather than identifying only activity involving the Bitget exploiter.

In this crypto scam report, ZachXBT reported that attackers stole approximately 18,900 ZEC from a hot wallet on September 24, 2026. He valued those stolen tokens at approximately $28.3 million in the Telegram update included with Specter’s post.

Following that theft, the alleged attackers reportedly began shielding approximately 2,700 ZEC through Zcash’s Ironwood pool. The investigator put the value of that portion at about $3.8 million.

While those figures concerned Zcash crypto, the exchange’s overall losses involved assets held across several blockchains. The broader investigation subsequently produced a revised estimate covering the September 24–25 exploit.

Bitget and Ledger Crypto Scam and Account Closures

Notably, across the affected networks, security firms SlowMist and Mandiant confirmed estimated losses totaling $387.5 million. Their investigations covered 11 blockchains, expanding the reported scope beyond the ZEC holdings identified in ZachXBT’s account.

Before that assessment, Bitget had placed the loss at $351.6 million in its initial reports immediately after the attack. The subsequent findings increased the exchange’s reported losses by $35.9 million.

Following the September crypto scam, Bitget announced on October 17 that it would discontinue services for certain customers. The exchange described the decision as a one-time account closure exercise affecting a subset of users.

Meanwhile, spyware implanted in some Ledger wallets reportedly led to an estimated $90 million in stolen cryptocurrency. Reports also emerged that Ledger had received warnings about wallet tampering months before the losses came to light.

Zcash Crypto Market Data Shows ZEC Price Decline

Following the crypto scam funds movement, CoinGecko’s latest available market data placed the ZEC price at $1,142.98, down 3.7% over 24 hours. The displayed trading range extended from $1,132.57 to $1,190.18.

Within that reported daily trading range, the chart showed an early decline followed by a recovery toward $1,180. However, a late-session retreat followed the rebound.

Alongside those price movements, CoinGecko listed Zcash crypto market capitalization at $19.425 billion and daily trading volume at $664.152 million. Perpetual open interest stood at $3.511 billion.

Over the longer measurement periods, ZEC price performance table showed losses of 5.7% across seven days and 10.8% across 14 days. The 30-day decline reached 15.3%, while the one-year performance showed a 441.2% gain.
