Crypto Wallets Review 2026 Complete Security Features Fees Pros and Cons Guide

What are crypto wallets

The primary function of cryptocurrency wallets is to store your private keys. Private keys are cryptographically hidden digital information that are used to sign transactions and make digital signatures. They are essential to participate in the blockchain network. Private keys allow you to access your cryptocurrencies and are your gateway to the web3 world.

Note that crypto wallets do NOT store value; that is, they don’t store your cryptocurrencies. There are various types of wallets, categorised on multiple criteria.

This review focuses on the most popular category – software wallets (or ‘hot wallets’). Two types of hot wallets feature in this review – custodial wallets and non-custodial wallets. Custodial wallets are services that manage your private keys for you. Non-custodial wallets are services that do not manage your private keys.

While custodial wallets like Speed Wallet take away the management effort and headache of managing your private keys, you are not in charge of your crypto. On the other hand, while non-custodial wallets like Bitget Wallet let you be in charge of your funds, you are solely responsible for the security of your private keys. If you forget/lose your seed phrase and forget your credentials to your Google or Apple accounts, you will lose your funds permanently.

Why are crypto wallets significant?

Crypto wallets are essential to managing your cryptocurrencies, to say the least. But, increasingly, modern crypto wallets are offering newer, exciting, and relevant features like trading, swapping, and payments.

What does this review cover

This review gives an overview of ten popular crypto wallets, including their basic features, top pros and cons, user reviews, and a brief overall review. This information should help you decide if the wallet is best for you.

What to keep in mind when selecting a crypto wallet

The best crypto wallet for you is the one that has the features you are looking for and is legally cleared in your local region. Note that this review does not give information about local availability.

When considering user reviews on the Play Store and the App Store, check the number of reviews for the star rating. A very high star rating with very few reviews suggests the wallet has not been used extensively, yet.

An important warning about web (or browser) extension wallets is that users need to ensure they use the latest update and be extra careful. This is because hackers often target browser extension wallets; recently, a major browser extension was hacked, and this was one among a series of similar hacks affecting various browser extension service providers.

1. Speed Wallet

SPEED WALLET

PROS

  • Industry-leading, seamless, and comprehensive BTC and Stablecoin experience.
  • Recurring buys feature to automate crypto buying.
  • In-built app store.
  • Crypto-powered gift cards from major global brands, including Amazon.

CONS

  • Limited to BTC and major stablecoins
  • No self-custody option

If you need a cryptocurrency wallet that caters to all your Bitcoin and Stablecoin needs, Speed Wallet should be your top choice. From simple P2P transactions to paying on global websites like Amazon, Speed offers a comprehensive suite of services.

Users can buy, sell, send, receive, and even swap BTC, USDT, USDC, and Digital Gold (XAUT) on their Speed Wallets. Speed is a custodial wallet, meaning that Speed Wallet will manage your private keys. It is available through a highly positively rated mobile application and a Chrome web extension. Moreover, they also manage your seed phrase for you; this is ideal for beginners since seed phrase management can be cumbersome.

Speed Wallet is a Lightning wallet, which means it enables you to transact via the Bitcoin Lightning Network. While the main Bitcoin Protocol remains the most popular solution for settling Bitcoin transactions, the Lightning network is rapidly growing as an alternative.

The Bitcoin Lightning network solved Bitcoin’s scalability problem; it enables quick, cheap, and everyday transactions. Small and frequent transactions are now possible cost-effectively and quickly because of this network. The main Bitcoin Protocol does not offer a solution for small and frequent payments, making it largely impractical for everyday use.

A standout feature of Speed is that it now also enables stablecoin payments on the Lightning Network; Speed counts among the very few wallets that have this feature. Another cool feature is the wallet’s integration with Telegram; it offers a seamless experience on one of the world’s fastest-growing global social messaging applications. Available as a bot on the messaging app, users can send, receive, and track BTC, USDT, and USDT directly from their chats.

Additionally, Speed Wallet offers earnings opportunities through its rewards and referrals programs. Users can get rewarded for everyday use, through their referral program, and via in-app games.

2. Bitget Wallet

  • PROS

    • 100-plus blockchains accessible via wallet.
    • Seamless integration with Bitget exchange.
    • Gas-free on-chain transactions via GetGas.
    • $300 million insurance fund.
    • MPC-enabled.

    CONS

    • Unavailable in the US and Canada.

Bitget offers a comprehensive crypto experience on its self-custody wallet, which is seamlessly integrated with the rapidly growing Bitget exchange. Since it is a self-custody solution, Bitget cannot freeze your assets in your Bitget wallet. Bitget designed its self-custody wallet solution specifically for long-term holders and those seeking efficient cross-chain swaps. However, the wallet is completely functional from a trading standpoint as well.

The Bitget Wallet allows users to send, receive, and swap cryptocurrencies across multiple major chains, including BNB Chain, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and more. It also allows for the management of NFTs. The Bitget Wallet makes cross-chain transactions and asset management seamless and easy through its multi-chain architecture.

While interacting with the Bitget exchange application or website, you will be using their custodial in-exchange wallet. The Bitget Wallet is a separate application, although it is deeply integrated with the exchange.

It includes a decentralized application (DApp) browser to allow users to interact with various DApps without leaving the wallet.

Users can easily browse the web3 ecosystem with the wallet, accessing a Decentralized Exchange aggregator for quick and low-fee transaction quotes. The aggregator feature offers cross-chain swaps and accounts for slippage. Several NFT marketplaces and DeFi protocols are accessible through the Bitget Wallet.

It is a Multi-Party Computation (MPC) enabled wallet. An MPC wallet stores the private keys in chunks, with each chunk stored in separate locations. This security design prevents a single point of failure and is offered by most modern crypto wallet solutions. An MPC wallet is ideal for beginners since it uses easier backup options like your Gmail account or your Apple ID instead of 12 or 24-word seed phrases. However, Bitget also offers the option to use a seed phrase as a backup option.

Bitget uses the Double Encryption Storage Mechanism (DESM), which acts as an additional security layer for the user’s private keys and seed phrase.

3. Base App (By Coinbase)

  • PROS

    • Integration with industry-leading centralized exchange.
    • Biometrics and security locks as additional security layers.
    • DEX aggregator for best prices and in-app DApp access.
    • Browser extension compatible with hardware wallets, including Ledger.

    CONS

    • Seed phrase mandatory, so if you lose it, you lose your funds permanently.

The Base application is a self-custody cryptocurrency wallet solution by Coinbase, the entity behind the Coinbase crypto exchange. Like Bitget, Coinbase offers both self-custody and custodial wallet services. The custodial wallet service is available on the exchange itself, and the self-custody solution is available as a standalone application.

Base offers a comprehensive suite of services: trading over 5,500 assets across multiple chains, including mainstream cryptos like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and Stablecoins, among others. Users can also access a dapp browser and manage NFTs within the application.

It also offers a DEX aggregator to enable users to find the best prices when interacting with the decentralized finance universe. Base also contains social features, including an encrypted web3 chat feature, which also allows for crypto and NFT transfers.

Some advanced transparency features on Base include token approval alerts and transaction simulation. Token approval alerts will warn you about which assets a dapp is trying to withdraw. Some dapps might lure you into giving access to all your assets. However, with the approval feature, you will know which assets are being requested before you complete your transaction.

The transaction simulation feature gives you an estimate of how the transaction will affect your holdings for clarity.

4. Atomic Wallet

Atomic wallet

  • PROS

    • 1200+ assets supported, including ERC-20 and BEP-20 tokens.
    • Bank cards can be used to buy crypto, accept USD, and EUR among other currencies.
    • No registration and KYC required.
    • Up to 20X leverage on their new perps market.
    • Native prediction markets (via Polymarket) and Perps (via Hyperliquid).

    CONS

    • Lacks 2-factor authentication and integration with hardware wallets.
    • 5% convenience fees for crypto purchases made with fiat money.

Atomic: Best Crypto Wallet is a non-custodial decentralized wallet that offers a wide range of services. Fiat on-ramp, multi-asset staking, and swaps are among Atomic’s core features. Notably, Atomic Wallet offers a seamless experience across three different platforms – desktop, smartphone, and its Web3 wallet extension.

Sending, receiving, selling, buying, staking, and swapping cryptos are possible within the wallet application itself.

Atomic Perps, powered by Hyperliquid, is the latest addition to Atomic’s suite of services and is rapidly expanding its set of supported cryptocurrencies. Perpetuals are contracts that allow you to bet on a cryptocurrency’s future price in perpetuity; however, holding a perp position comes with a fee – the funding rate.

Atomic Prediction Markets is another headline feature of the wallet service provider. With their integration with Polymarket, the biggest prediction market, users can bet on real-world events within the wallet.

Ethereum, Solana, Cardano, and Zilliqa (ZIL) are among the 30+ Proof-of-Stake cryptos that can be staked via Atomic Wallet. All EVM chains, MATIC, and BNB Chain can be managed on Atomic Wallet. Over 60 crypto pairs can be swapped without Know-Your-Customer (KYC) and registration. Additionally, custom tokens can also be added.

USDT on the Base chain, SKR, OWL, BREV, and FUN are among the latest additions to the supported-assets list (as of late Jan 2026). XMR, SKR, LIT, DASH, and AXS are the latest additions to the Atomic Perps market, which offers up to 20X leverage.

5.Trust Wallet

    • PROS

      • Industry-leading set of cryptos and chains accessible via native support.
      • 24+ cryptos can be staked natively.
      • Passkey feature available via SWIFT Wallet, making seed phrase optional.

      CONS

      • Browser extension got hacked reportedly via a not-so-advanced method.

Trust Wallet is a self-custody hot cryptocurrency wallet offering one of the widest selections of assets across over 100 chains. Including cryptos, NFTs, and other assets, Trust Wallet gives users access to more than 10 million assets. Staking through this wallet is just as rich, offering both ease and variety.

Native support covers all major chains, including Bitcoin, Solana, Ethereum, all Ethereum-compatible chains, XRP, Avalanche, Tron, Polygon, and many more.

Pooled Ethereum staking, Liquid Staking Tokens (LSTs), are also available. Users can also earn passive income on their USDT and USDC holdings.

More than 24 cryptocurrencies can be natively staked via Trust Wallet, including Cosmos (ATOM), Polkadot (DOT), Solana (SOL), Ethereum (ETH), BNB Chain (BNB), among others.

Native support means the wallet directly interacts with the blockchain of the selected cryptocurrency. Wallets that don’t offer native support for cryptos offer access to those cryptos usually via bridges. Bridges are vulnerable to hacks and raise transaction fees. Additionally, native support also means the wallet won’t charge any fees for your transactions in that crypto.

Trust Wallet’s SWIFT Wallet option is a separate offering by Trust Wallet. While the normal Trust Wallet option requires a traditional 12-word seed phrase for recovering the wallet, SWIFT Wallet uses a passkey for recovering the account. The passkey is linked to your biometric information, ideal for those who find the seed-phrase system inconvenient.

SWIFT Wallet allows users to pay gas fees in over 200 different coins. This can be helpful if you don’t have enough crypto for which the native transaction has to be made. However, the gas fees can be higher on SWIFT Wallet.

Users should ensure that they use the latest web browser extension. In December 2025, version 2.68 of the browser was hacked. While Trust Wallet promptly cleaned the code and published an updated version, the hack highlighted the vulnerability of browser extensions.

6. MetaMask

    • PROS

      • Comprehensive Ethereum and EVM ecosystem.
      • Multiple staking options, including liquid staking.
      • Aggregated net-worth portfolio display for various chains.
      • Partnerships with Mastercard, PayPal, and Robinhood for payments and fiat off-ramp.
      • Native prediction markets (via Polymarket).

      CONS

      • Snaps, the modular feature enabling access to non-native chains, may not be beginner-friendly.
      • Lacks native 2-factor authentication (2FA).

One of the most popular self-custody cryptocurrency wallets, MetaMask, offers native support for over 10 major chains, including Bitcoin, Solana, Polygon, Arbitrum, and more. Through its new modular architecture, it can support over 850 chains. MetaMask Wallet is available via a web browser extension and as a standalone mobile application.

Users can buy, sell, and swap cryptocurrencies in the wallet itself. For swaps and cross-chain bridging, fees will vary depending on the selected chain.

MetaMask offers a three-tiered Ethereum staking system for different budget constraints. Users can stake their crypto through Pooled staking, Individual staking, and Liquid staking.

Staking is the process of contributing some crypto to the blockchain’s upkeep. The staked crypto gives you returns but is unusable for a specific period, depending on the blockchain. So, before staking your crypto, consider the lock-in period and the return-to-inflation metrics. Note that liquid staking allows you to use the staked crypto in other DeFi avenues despite being staked.

MetaMask does not have native 2FA. 2FA or 2-factor authentication enhances security by adding an entry barrier on top of a password. Google Authenticator and one-time-password (OTP)-based systems are examples of 2FA. However, 2FA can be enabled on MetaMask via its developer platform (Infura). The 12-word seed phrase is mandatory and acts as the primary backup for your wallet.

7. Exodus Wallet

  • PROS

    • Integrated with Trezor hardware wallet.
    • Industry-leading wallet user experience.
    • Dedicated desktop application.
    • Auto-lock feature, helpful in case user leaves wallet open and unattended.

    CONS

    • Limited selection of fiat currencies for in-wallet crypto purchases.

Exodus Wallet is a non-custodial hot wallet available as a full desktop application, as a mobile application, and as a browser extension. Users can buy cryptos with fiat currencies; however, the list of supported fiat currencies is limited to 23. As of January 2026, supported fiat currencies include USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, and BRL, among others.

The mobile and desktop applications offer a beginner-friendly user experience. Buying, selling, swapping, and staking a large set of cryptos is possible without exiting the app. You can also view your NFTs within the app. Solana, Aptos (APT), Cardano, Tezos, Polygon, Cosmos, Kava, and Injective can be staked natively. The staking page includes an estimated earnings calculator.

Exodus Wallet’s Auto-Lock feature locks your wallet after a specified period. This is helpful in case you leave your wallet open and walk away from your device.

Notably, Exodus does not provide 2-factor authentication; they argue that to provide 2FA, additional user information is necessary, and Exodus does not collect any user information. This means that securing your seed phrase is critical for security and backup, since Exodus will not be able to recover your wallet in case you lose your login password.

8. 1Inch Wallet

  • PROS

    • Gasless swaps with Fusion mode.
    • Integrated with Ledger wallet (hardware wallet).
    • 13+ major chains natively supported for swaps.
    • Cross-chain swaps on supported chains can be done in-app.

    CONS

    • Does not support BTC natively.

1Inch is a self-custody wallet offering native swapping across over 13 chains, including Ethereum, Binance, Optimism, Solana, Arbitrum, and Avalanche, among others. 1Inch is an EVM-focused wallet and does not support Bitcoin natively. Bitcoin can be used on 1Inch Wallet in its wrapped or bridged formats.

Fusion mode allows gasless swaps, but minimum transaction amounts might be significantly higher than the minimum amount for the Classic mode. 1Inch Wallet is integrated with the 1Inch exchange, facilitating in-app swaps.

1Inch offers one of the most powerful DEX aggregators, covering more than 400 liquidity pools across the 13+ chains that it covers. Cross-chain swaps on supported chains can also be done within the app.

The wallet is secured by a threat-scanning engine that flags malicious contracts. A clear-signing feature ensures you can read the true function of a contract before you sign it. Clear signing converts unreadable computer information of the contract into a human-readable format. Additionally, 1Inch has a transaction simulation feature that will give you a post-transaction preview of your balance before you approve the transaction.

9. Phantom Wallet

  • PROS

    • Auto-slippage option to manage volatility.
    • Integrated with Ledger hardware wallet.
    • Smooth fiat to crypto on-ramping experience.
    • Incident history and status page.

    CONS

    • High swap fees.

The Phantom Wallet offers access to a perpetual futures market, a prediction market, and a slick desktop terminal. Available as a slick browser extension and a mobile application, Phantom lets users buy, swap, send, and receive crypto. It was originally built for the Solana ecosystem, however, the native support now also includes Ethereum, Bitcoin (Ordinals/BRC-20), Base, and Polygon, among others.

Cryptos can be purchased through fiat currencies, however, KYC requirements will apply, depending on your local region.

Phantom offers up to 40X leverage on Perps across more than 200 markets, which cover blue chip stocks, memes, and more.

One of the most impressive features in this review is Phantom’s status and incident history page. This page shows the live status of the wallet’s systems, including the backend, the website, past incidents, uptime, and more. Such information is not directly accessible for most other wallets and exchanges.

10. Crypto.com DeFi Wallet

PROS

  • Supports over 1000 chains.
  • Integration with Crypto.com exchange.
  • Fiat on-ramp via Apple Pay and Google Pay.
  • Native staking for 25+ tokens.
  • Ledger hardware wallet integration.

CONS

  • Relatively high withdrawal fees for some cryptos.

Crypto.com DeFi wallet is a non-custodial wallet and is separate from the Crypto.com exchange wallet. The exchange wallet is a custodial wallet, which means the exchange handles your private keys for you.

The defi wallet offers access to over 1000+ chains and more than 25 chains for staking natively. Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana, Polygon, and Cronos are among the few major chains compatible with this wallet. It also has an in-app dapp browser to access major dappss including Uniswap, OpenSea, etc.

Connecting with the exchange’s app, the defi wallet can receive the crypto via fiat currencies directly into it. Crypto.com on-chain wallet offers 2-factor authentication, unlike some other hot wallets.
