Roblox is among the leading metaverse games active today. Recently it was featured in Fast Company’s “Next Big Things in Tech” list. The game has 56 Million daily active users (DAUs) and over 200 Million monthly active users (MAUs) currently. Companies like Spotify, Gucci, Nike, and more already have a presence there.

 A Push For AI

“While we’ve barely scratched the surface on the potential of generative AI, Roblox is already building some of its superpowers into its creator tools to expedite game generation,” writes Fast Company, an American monthly magazine. “So far, Roblox’s game designers have an appetite for the new features: Over a third of beta testers have utilized each of these updates, and developers generate about 70,000 new materials each day.”

Data shows that nearly 42 percent of Roblox users are under the age of 13 years. Users aged 16 to 24 make up 22 percent of the community. Recently, the gaming platform was encountered allegations that it intentionally allowed kids exposure to explicit content.

“There’s a misperception that Roblox is safe – the brand has a bit of a halo around it due to the company falsely advertising itself that way to parents,” said Alexandra Walsh who is representing the plaintiffs. “Parents who would never let their kids use TikTok don’t think twice about letting them on Roblox, even though what they encounter on Roblox can be far more harmful.” Nothing has been proven true yet.

Generative artificial intelligence (GAI) is adding more value to the platform. It has made the the creation of environments easier for users. According to Roblox, it “is uniquely positioned to build this conversational AI model for immersive 3D worlds, thanks to our access to a large set of public 3D models to train on, our ability to integrate a model with our platform APIs, and our growing suite of innovative AI solutions.”

David Baszucki, Roblox CEO, is seeking brand partnerships to boost new age demographics on the platform. He told Fortune, an American business magazine, that, “We see a lot of behavior where people use it as a place to hang out or communicate. We’ve grown all our metrics relative to that peak time, so the foundation of the social communication platform has shown it has the strength to grow following the pandemic.”

In June, he told technology news provider, The Verge, that the platform’s future is about “more than games.” However, he did not mention the term metaverse during his conversation. With reference to office meetings, he said, “Say we want to have a Roblox company meeting with 2,700 people. It’s one thing to have everyone on Zoom, but it’s very different to have 2,700 people feel like we’re all in the same place.”

Currently, the metaverse people envision is far from being manifested into reality. It will take technological advancements and the accessibility of head-mounted displays (HMDs) to experience the metaverse.
