NEAR Protocol Eyes Quantum-Safe Testnet as Token Holds $1.48

Key Insights:

  • NEAR Protocol plans a quantum-safe testnet before Q2 2026 ends.
  • Rotatable access keys may reduce migration friction.
  • NEAR trades near $1.48 as traders watch $1.45 support.

NEAR Protocol traded near $1.48 on Thursday as traders weighed a fresh security roadmap against a firmer altcoin tape. The network plans to test a post-quantum signing scheme before the end of Q2 2026.

Account security now drives the story behind the move. The plan matters because many blockchains still tie addresses to cryptographic keys that quantum computers could eventually target.

The NEAR crypto model separates accounts from keys, which may let users rotate to safer credentials without changing addresses.

That difference gives the token a clearer technical narrative as volume rises and Bitcoin struggles for direction.

NEAR Protocol Puts Quantum-Safe Testnet in Market Focus

The Near One team wants to add FIPS-204 as its first post-quantum signing option. NIST standardized that algorithm, also called ML-DSA, for digital signatures in 2024.

NEAR Protocol currently supports Ed25519 and secp256k1 signatures, which remain common across crypto but do not address future quantum risks.

The testnet target gives the market a dated catalyst rather than a vague research theme. For traders, that distinction matters because roadmap timing can shape liquidity. NEAR Protocol also benefits from linking the upgrade to a real account design advantage, not only a broad security claim.

NEAR crypto price move near $1.48 came with stronger activity across altcoins. The latest data showed that the token witnessed more than $415 million in 24-hour volume.

That volume suggests the announcement reached beyond developer circles and entered market positioning.

Post-Quantum Signing Tests NEAR’s Rotatable Key Edge

NEAR Protocol uses human-readable accounts controlled by access keys. Users can add or remove those keys without abandoning their account name.

That design could simplify quantum-safe cryptography migration once the new signature scheme reaches production. On Bitcoin and Ethereum, addresses depend more directly on public-key systems.

Migration may require more coordination, new wallet flows, and careful user education. NEAR Protocol can present a simpler path because account identity and cryptography sit in separate layers.

The upgrade would let an account holder rotate keys through one transaction. That does not remove execution risk, but it reduces a major usability problem.

Retail users often lose confidence when security upgrades force new addresses, wallet exports, or manual transfers. The FIPS-204 choice also gives the plan institutional language.

Lattice-based signatures now sit within recognized standards, which helps exchanges, custodians, and wallet teams review implementation risk. However, larger keys and signatures will still affect performance, storage, and user tools.

NEAR Protocol Faces Wallet and Hardware Migration Test

Astafiev described NEAR Protocol support as the easier layer. The harder work sits with wallets, hardware devices, APIs, custody tools, and user workflows.

Those systems must support larger quantum-safe cryptography payloads without creating confusing transaction screens.

Near One has started working with software and hardware wallet builders, including Ledger. Hardware wallets create the sharpest problem because many current devices were not built for post-quantum signing.

Some may lack the capacity for new algorithms or larger signature handling. The Intents ecosystem adds another layer to the story.

Defuse, which operates NEAR Intents swap infrastructure, is working on quantum-safe Chain Signatures for users across different origin chains. That could extend NEAR’s security pitch beyond its own account base.

NEAR Protocol crypto network already supports threshold signatures across more than 35 chains through its Chain Signatures MPC network.

Post-quantum MPC remains earlier in research, so the roadmap still carries technical uncertainty. Even so, the network now has a marketable security timeline as quantum concerns move from theory into product planning.

Price action now turns on whether NEAR holds the $1.45 support zone. A close above $1.60 would strengthen the breakout case, while a break lower could send traders back toward $1.36. Funding flows could add another swing factor.
