Bitcoin Futures Expand as Russia’s MOEX Adds XRP, SOL, ETH

Key Insights:

  • Bitcoin perpetual futures will begin trading on MOEX on Sept. 22.
  • XRP, Ether, Solana, and TRON contracts will launch alongside Bitcoin.
  • MOEX limited the new crypto futures to qualified Russian investors.

Moscow Exchange will launch Bitcoin perpetual futures alongside four other crypto-linked contracts on Sept. 22, 2026. The products will track indices for Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, XRP, and TRON. MOEX said the launch expands access to regulated derivatives for qualified Russian investors.

The rollout extends Russia’s regulated crypto market after new rules took effect on Sept. 1, 2026. The Bank of Russia guidance permits cryptocurrency transactions through approved intermediaries, subject to investor eligibility rules. The framework also created a structure for organized trading and digital asset custody.

Bitcoin Perpetual Futures Expand MOEX Crypto Lineup

Moscow Exchange said the new Bitcoin contract will trade under the BTCUSDF code. Ether, Solana, XRP, and TRON contracts will use separate index-linked codes. All five products will operate as cash-settled, automatically renewed one-day futures.

MOEX said contract quotations will appear in U.S. dollars. However, settlement will occur in Russian rubles without delivery of underlying tokens. The exchange set funding calculation parameters at 0% and 0.35% for the new contracts.

Maria Patrikeeva, MOEX managing director for derivatives, said investors showed strong demand for digital asset derivatives. She said regulated exchange infrastructure offered transparent pricing and settlement protections for market participants. MOEX published her statement with the product announcement on Sept. 16.

The exchange said over 72,000 qualified investors traded its crypto-linked futures since their launch last summer. Their combined turnover exceeded RUB 600 billion, according to the same MOEX release. An exchange dashboard showed 71,000 clients had participated by August.

MOEX already lists dated futures tied to the same five crypto assets. Its Aug. 28 settlement notice priced Bitcoin futures at $79,083.85. Ether settled at $2,497.17, while XRP settled at $1.4136 for that expiry.

Bitcoin Market Holds Near $76,000 Before Launch

Bitcoin traded near $76,300 on Sept. 17, CoinMarketCap data showed. The token gained roughly 0.7% over 24 hours after falling earlier this week. That price remained below the $79,083.85 August execution level recorded for MOEX’s monthly Bitcoin futures.

CoinGlass data showed Bitcoin futures open interest near $52.2 billion on Sept. 17. Twenty-four-hour futures volume stood near $70.1 billion, while spot volume remained much lower. Those figures indicated derivatives remained a major venue for short-term Bitcoin positioning.

The broader crypto market traded higher on Sept. 17. Bitcoin changed hands at $76,405, up 1.28% over 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap data. Trading volume fell 23.78% to $29.36 billion, suggesting the price gain came alongside weaker spot activity.

The launch does not create spot token delivery through the Moscow Exchange. Investors instead gain price exposure through ruble-settled derivatives linked to MOEX crypto indices. That structure separates the contracts from direct cryptocurrency ownership.

LMAX Group strategist Joel Kruger said Bitcoin entered September after gaining about 25% during August. CoinMarketCap cited his figures in a Sept. 1 market review. The report also described September as historically weaker for Bitcoin than most calendar months.

Bitcoin Futures Follow Russia Crypto Rules

Bank of Russia said the country’s cryptocurrency law took effect on Sept. 1. The framework allows qualified and non-qualified investors to transact through intermediaries. Non-qualified investors face annual purchase limits and testing requirements for approved liquid cryptocurrencies.

The regulator separately said exchanges may establish trading rules for organized digital currency markets. Exchanges will also calculate market and weighted average prices for eligible instruments. The Bank of Russia published those draft implementation rules on July 27.

For non-qualified investors, the regulator proposed Bitcoin, Ether, and Tether among publicly tradable cryptocurrencies. Qualified investors can access a broader range without the same purchase cap. MOEX’s upcoming perpetual contracts remain restricted to qualified investors, per the exchange’s announcement.

That distinction limits the immediate retail impact of the launch. However, it expands Russia crypto derivatives beyond monthly expiries into continuously renewed contracts. The structure gives professional investors another regulated route for price exposure without direct token delivery.

Bitcoin Launch Sets Sept. 22 Market Test

MOEX will begin trading the five perpetual contracts on Sept. 22. That date will provide the first measurable test of demand across Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, XRP, and TRON perpetuals.

The exchange’s prior crypto derivatives turnover provides a baseline for comparison. Traders can also track open interest, daily turnover, and funding after launch. Those figures will show whether perpetual products attract activity beyond MOEX’s existing monthly crypto futures.
