Bitcoin ETFs Pull $176M as Ethereum Bleeds $60M: What’s Next?

Key Insights

  • Bitcoin ETFs recorded $175.99 million in net inflows on Oct. 27, led by BlackRock’s $151.46 million contribution.
  • Ethereum ETFs lost $60.22 million as BlackRock’s ETHA recorded $93.3 million in withdrawals.
  • Bitcoin futures positioning remained mixed, with BTC trading near $81,000 and leveraged activity continuing.

Bitcoin ETFs attracted $175.99 million in net inflows on Oct. 27, while Ethereum investment funds recorded fresh withdrawals. The divergence highlighted stronger demand for Bitcoin-backed investment products during the U.S. trading session.

SoSoValue data showed that BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) accounted for most Bitcoin inflows. Meanwhile, BlackRock’s Ethereum fund recorded withdrawals that exceeded the entire Ethereum ETF category’s net losses.

The contrasting figures emerged as BTC crypto prices traded near $80,000. Futures market data also showed investors maintaining substantial leveraged exposure despite uncertain price direction.

Bitcoin ETFs Attract $176M as BlackRock Leads Inflows

Farside Investors recorded approximately $176 million in net inflows across U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on Oct. 27.

BlackRock’s IBIT attracted $151.46 million, accounting for approximately 86% of total inflows. Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) followed with $24.54 million.

The remaining funds recorded no net inflows or outflows during the session. Consequently, two products accounted for virtually all fresh capital entering the category.

Bitcoin ETFs extended their recovery after attracting approximately $110.3 million on Oct. 26. The consecutive inflows followed two sessions of withdrawals that placed pressure on institutional investment products.

Farside recorded $635.6 million in Bitcoin ETF outflows on Oct. 22. Another $137.9 million left the following day, bringing combined withdrawals to approximately $773.5 million.

The subsequent two sessions recovered approximately $286.3 million of those losses. However, the rebound remained smaller than the preceding withdrawals.

Ethereum ETF Outflows Deepen as BlackRock ETHA Loses $93M

While Bitcoin ETFs attracted new capital, Ethereum investment products recorded contrasting fund flows.

Farside Investors showed that U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs lost approximately $60.2 million on Oct. 27. BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA) accounted for $93.3 million in withdrawals.

However, Fidelity’s Ethereum Fund (FETH) attracted $28.6 million during the same session. Grayscale’s Ethereum Mini Trust also recorded approximately $4.5 million in inflows.

These contributions partially offset BlackRock’s withdrawals but failed to produce a positive daily balance.

The latest Ethereum ETF outflows followed another $88.6 million withdrawal on Oct. 26. Consequently, the category lost approximately $148.8 million across the two sessions.

Ethereum ETFs also experienced $110.6 million in withdrawals on Oct. 22. The figures highlighted uneven institutional demand across the two largest cryptocurrency investment markets.

Nevertheless, the withdrawals did not establish that investors directly transferred capital from Ethereum products into Bitcoin funds.

Bitcoin ETFs Recover While BTC Futures Traders Remain Divided

Despite renewed Bitcoin ETFs inflows, derivatives markets presented a more complicated picture of investor positioning.

Arab Chain’s Binance futures analysis placed Bitcoin open interest near $9.15 billion during its observation. The report also showed approximately $4.11 billion in short-position volume against $3.91 billion in longs.

That produced a reported long-to-short ratio near 0.95. However, the figures reflected the provider’s positioning methodology rather than the exchange’s account-based ratio.

Separate Binance futures data showed Bitcoin perpetual open interest near $7.8 billion on Oct. 28. The narrower contract measure differed from Arab Chain’s broader reported figure.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin price traded around $81,000 after approaching $80,000 earlier in the week. The price remained within a relatively narrow range despite renewed ETF demand.

Positive perpetual funding rates showed that long-position holders continued paying short-position holders. Therefore, futures data did not establish a broad bearish majority across Binance accounts.

Can Bitcoin ETFs Sustain Their Recovery Near $80K?

The latest Bitcoin ETFs inflows showed that demand returned after substantial withdrawals earlier in October.

However, BlackRock and Fidelity accounted for virtually all the Oct. 27 additions. The concentration limited evidence of renewed demand across the broader fund category.

Meanwhile, Ethereum ETF withdrawals indicated continued pressure on Ether-focused investment products. BlackRock’s ETHA remained the primary contributor to the category’s losses.

For BTC crypto, sustained inflows could support spot-market demand if the pattern continued. However, ETF flows alone could not establish a near-term price direction.

The next trading sessions would show whether Bitcoin ETFs maintained positive flows or repeated October’s earlier reversals.
