Coinbase News: Seven Tokenized US Stocks Go Live on Aave V4

Key Insights:

  • In the latest Coinbase news, seven tokenized stocks now support USDC borrowing through Aave V4 on Base.
  • Chainlink’s 24/5 feeds price collateral while weekend values retain their last published level.
  • Corporate actions pause affected reserves until Aave applies each token’s updated multiplier.

Coinbase has placed seven tokenized U.S. technology stocks on Aave V4’s Base deployment. Eligible users outside the United States can post the assets as collateral and borrow USDC.

The Coinbase news update covers assets like AAPLc, AMZNc, GOOGLc, METAc, MSFTc, NVDAc, and TSLAc. Meanwhile, Chainlink supplies on-chain pricing data for the new market.

Users cannot borrow stock tokens or open equity-against-equity positions. Each token has its own collateral factor, while USDC is the only borrowable asset.

Coinbase News Details the Aave V4 Equities Hub

Within that framework, the Aave governance proposal describes the Equities Hub as one USDC reserve and one lending spoke. The lending spoke pools all available collateral in the market.

Users can deposit any combination of the seven Coinbase tokenized stocks. They can then borrow USDC against the deposited holdings, subject to each asset’s collateral factor.

The Aave crypto market operates continuously, allowing users to supply, borrow, repay, and withdraw at any time. However, corporate actions create a temporary exception for an affected reserve.

Aave pauses that reserve until it applies the token’s revised multiplier. The process covers events such as dividends and stock splits that change the token’s underlying claim. Therefore, the Equities Hub uses USDC as its sole borrowable reserve.

Tokenized Stocks Hold Underlying Shares in Custody

Behind the Aave crypto configuration, Coinbase Onchain SPV Ltd. issues a certificate for each Coinbase tokenized stock. Each certificate links to underlying shares held for the issuer. Alpaca Securities LLC, an SEC-registered broker-dealer, holds those shares in segregated custody accounts under the issuer’s name.

The custody arrangement restricts Alpaca from lending the shares or using them for its own account. It also prevents the custodian from holding a lien over the shares.

Stock splits follow the same token adjustment process. A multiplier starts at 1.0 and changes only through corporate actions. The multiplier creates a total-return claim that can rise above the raw share price over time.

Alongside the custody model, Chainlink provides on-chain market data for collateral valuations on Aave V4. Last month, PR Newswire reported that Coinbase selected Chainlink as the official oracle infrastructure for Coinbase tokenized stocks.

Chainlink Data Feeds provide continuous pricing to Base builders. The feeds support lending markets, decentralized exchanges, and structured-product platforms using tokenized equities as collateral.

For this Aave crypto market, Chainlink documentation lists 24/5 tokenized equity feeds. They run Sunday at 20:00 ET through Friday at 20:00 ET.

The feeds publish on-chain prices during that schedule. Over weekends and U.S. market holidays, they retain the last published price. As a result, collateral values do not change until the underlying market reopens.

During those closed periods, a position’s health factor can decline only through interest accrual. Meanwhile, corporate actions still require the reserve pause described in Aave governance materials. The schedule separates uninterrupted protocol access from the equity pricing window. It also identifies when collateral values receive new market data.

More Coinbase tokenized stocks may join the Base market over time. GHO may also become a borrowable asset. Finally, Aave’s risk steward can revisit supply and borrow caps as token supply and venue depth grow.
